You upgrade the skills, language competency etc.....does it really help one to secure his rice bowl, a better paying job etc?
Any real life examples, successful or not to share pls.
I upgrade to uni cert from JC cert.
Then I found tuition students easier plus more confident to go out shape them to A.
According to what I was told by many of those workers, the answer is no.
The Key word is it "Depend on your age " and the ability for you to upgrade to the relevant skills....
What is "Upgrading Skills" all about ?
Is it about improving one's level of competency - as in helping a Cashier to do a better job that enlarge its position with more responsibilities, or helping a welder to learn new skills that allow it to weld by managing a robotic welding machine instead of manual welding, or is it to help an ITE qualified machine tool operator to work towards an engineering degree - all resulting in higher pay, if not better job satisfaction ?
With all the big propaganda publicity that overwhelm us with Billion Dollar Budgetary Provisions - where has all the money gone, and how many Singaporean workers have actually benefitted from such a program ?
What are the net achievements from this program - to the individual, the business, the industry, and the national productivity levels ?
The view from the other thread - ‘Reform Party Responds to the Economic Strategies Committee’ - is that this program has been flaunted since the 1990s, and for over the last ten years and more, Singapore's productivity level continue to be lamentable.
Read the full the thread for more details.
If Singaporeans can learn to distinguish the trees from the forest, and plough through the thick PAP propaganda - one can see the propaganda that have been released to sooth sore nerves in the face of the constant barrage of economic challenges.
Yes, it really helps especially staffs need to be upgraded and go for training. So that staff can take on new tasks and new jobs within the company.
nowadays employers want u to be T-shaped employee .... so naturally, upgrading of skills help ... but will they peg ur salary to ur ability?
the jobs market is a number game.................if there's only 10 jobs and there are11 guys, 1 is gonna be jobless no matter what...........
It definitely helps.
As long as you lower your wage expectations after upgrading yourself.
Really.
lower wage also means number game mah.................age also number game.........
so the best is if you're older.............upgrade skills and then downgrade pay.............then offer to forfeit all paid leave, sick leave, all benefits.............bonus also no need...........no OT...............
u upgrade people oso upgrade
all same skills
so why mus employ u leh?
=(

employers should undergo some upgrading oso ..to be fair ..
Upgrade so that everybody can be "cheaper, better and faster"
Times and tide changes. The employment scene also varies with time.
Do you know that there are still people who dont know how to use handphone, internet, email...? Dont you think they need to upgrade themselves as they have already expired themselves.
Everytime people cannot find jobs, the people at the top will tell them to upgrade their skills.
Upgrade already and still cannot find jobs, go for re-training and more upgrading again.
After a few rounds of upgrading and re-training, end up with a $500 a month job washing dishes.
How to survive?
Plus there is only so much you can do to upgrade.
You want a 70 year old lady who has been collecting cardboards for a living to learn to set up excel spreadsheets or VBA programming?
Or learn to operate heavy machinary?

More people with the same skills means more competition for limited jobs.
Means you need to lower your salary expectations to get the job lor.
In sg, upgrading means lowering your salary expectations.

No, not at all. The govt using CDC to brainwash people by getting them to go training session to tell them that the trend these days is work more and get low pay. The word "trend" should be changed to "exploitation" instead.
upgrade from O level to diploma level. or from diploma to a graduate. then upgrading is effective. or can be that a BA graduate pursuing for ACCA or CFA qualifications.
