Originally posted by Min00:yes. they don't really support human rights honestly. they are trying to sell their ideas via National Education as compulsory subject in secondary schools, to "educate" how govt work, think and do. Seldom, we get to see them show support to our culture, our dialects and our rights to do what we want. For instance, there used to be cantonese radio programs and such. When they take over, they gradually phased out our very own dialects and such. They only say good things about advancing towards the future and why this and that has to happen, at the end of the day, do they actually care about our feelings, do they respect our dialects? we are either hokkien/cantonese/hakka and etc, but the govt never support any media programs and such for us. ...i am embarrassed to call myself singaporean in that sense. Thinking deeply, I think everyone would like to have government for people, not people for government
they never said you cannot speak dialect, just ask you to speak more mandarin only, or so called the putong language. You go around the region, peoples are so envy of singaporeans, get good education, got jobs, got a roof on top and sure to have 3 meals if not good foods on the table, can get to places within minutes, can go tour, can enjoy peace and harmony in a green garden...what else do you want??? if you feel embarass, at any one time, someone in indonesia, philippine, malaysia, mynmar, thailand, vietnam etc etc will like to exchange citizenship with you.
hahah. u are really comical. when i talk about something, you talk about another thing not related to my topic. hahah. of course lah, i feel embarrass and i would like to exchange citizenship if there really is. if not, I won't be typing here. Hahah, really funny. u talk as though u know of such exhange practice exist.

i got a strong feeling that most people here thinks that USA is a very Liberal country. with absolute freedom of speech( one value of human rights) and lalalala..
well, i would say you are wrong. USA are infact, rather conservative.
it is understandable on why people hates PAP. but sometimes, the reason/logic behind their views/arguments are shallow or dont make sense at all. it just shows how inept they are. would you trust these people when they cast their votes in a democratic system? this is one reason why i support PAP practicing benevolant dictatorship.

so , what are you trying to tell us. REject democracy, human right and be obedient and willing to suffer under PAP.
If you have chosen to be blindly supporting PAP go ahead, we don't need to base on your saying to change our mind. Not all are like you who enjoy living within the fence.
Please quote how shallow are people, how shallow are our views and arguments? come tell us. so you trying to say people who support PAP are not shallow?

1stly. singapore is not totally totalitarian or democratic. it is mixed, so as many countries. human rights?? which country fully practices it? USA?? well, ask them to clarify things about the G-jail.
another point is, it's just how funny you have steorotyped me into those who follow PAP blindly. so FYI, i dont. i make decisions based on thinking and not emotions due to some petty issues. i'm just here saying most singaporeans can't even make a wise and informed choice, then how would a pure democracy function properly?
in anyway, i am here to discuss about views.please dont get all personal and start some flaming war.=)
cheers!

I respect the people choice but I don't respect underhand (although it sound so right) the election held here with the giant GRCs. Are we voting for what we want or are we voting one good plus many other so so quality candidates?
Moreover the Election Dept is under the ruling party. Credibility is questionable

hmm.what i'm thinking is that if oppositions are really good and can induce a better change for SG's future, then the people would have voted for them. and i really hope the reason why people vote for opposition is because the opposition can really bring forth its people, society and economy to a higher level, not just because people are not satisfied with PAP.
policies made by PAP are good. but i have to admit that the way they do it isn't very convincing or satisfying. that is why they have invoked the wrath of much singaporeans. however, they still manage to help the country progress.
