Congestion pricing only means that those who can AFFORD it.. gets to travel at a convenient time.
That only results lowering poorer commuters' quality of life.
Imagine you are a busy working parent.. and you need to send and fetch your child to and from school, will you rather pay the higher fee or be late ? or spend less time with your family to save several hundreds of dollars per year ?
Or you are a student that needs to travel to school during peak hours, what will you do ? wake up at 4am just to avoid the higher rate ? What happens to your quality of life ?
When public transports is the ONLY means of transport for a person, this kind of pricing scheme greatly impacts the common commuter.
Congestion pricing is discriminatory, else it will never work.
no lar, where got need to wake up at 4am one lol. those who woke up at 4am, reporting time for work is either 5 or 5.30am or even 6am. if you dun like discriminatory pricing, then how about increasing more trains, like every train at every 2 mins. how about mrt or sbs providing more express bus and opening many routes then, instead of the fare as $3, how about charging at $2?
how about rewarding commuters that those early commuters taking trains from 6.30am to 7.30am, discount of 20-30% of fare. if not, try double deck carriages lar lol. arbo dig more underground and then have another circle line project lol.
it is just plain sad to see the state of public transportation in singapore.
once, i waited for 20over minutes to go from jurong east stn to clementi station, missing out on 3 trains cos all were jam-packed.
den now at work, i end work some time between 5 - 6pm daily, and waiting 30mins-60mins for my only bus back home is an everyday affair. its not like i have another alternative route back home which is shorter and faster. there are also no MRT service in the area. and the most retarded thing about this is that why am i being forced to wait an average of 45mins for a 40min journey? (i am constantly mocked by my colleagues for spending close to 2hours on a trip that would otherwise take only 15 mins if i have my own private transport.) Furthermore, they revealed that it cost roughly the same or even cheaper to maintain a class 2b bike than to pay for public transport, which is lacking in both efficiency and comfort.

Newspaper says SMRT profit drops despite so many commuters taking the MRT, so how?
Need to increase ridership or fares again?

fare hike followed by reduction in train frequency
I don't believe the crap from newspaper, kakee nang - publish what the ruling party wants people to know and believe
Does not make sense that there is huge increase in the number of people taking trains and yet claim they make loss. Rubbish! Think they wanna base on this to increase fares soong. So people, get ready to be sucked more

Last time, hike fares because of all these new frills like TV mobile.
Think they made a big announcement about having TV screens on buses and MRT carriages trying to impress commuters on these changes.
Seems like now, these screens have become white elephants - buses don't show anything anymore, while I think they may have taken out the screens in the MRT carriages because you don't see them anymore.
Any bus fans who knows what will happen to TV mobile and such?
i asked a 4D counter aunty at my place, she said Singapore pools bought all (LCD) of them to show the scores for soccer bets and horse racing bets at new pools outlets.
Bus cannot make it, other place still can make money,..singapore govt, very clever, bo bian, i admit i lose to them.
Even after taking those TV down from buses, prices still the same.

SMRT CEO & CFO alrdy kpkb the bus ops not profitable, burden to SMRT's profit line.
Yet they can deploy so many buses onto operating Sentosa Casino bus svs. $2 per trip so profitable.

That is the hint from smrt.
They gonna increase if some ministers say economy back on track.
And poor pple gonna pay extra again.
Even e LTA planners are thinking they can squeeze more ppl on MRT and remove buses as MRT more profitable.
"ERP help ppl to own cars"
I think at tis rate, gahmen would start selling scholarships.. who can make more profits would get it!
SMRT so interested in operating RWS buses. Deploy so many buses on it
$2 per trip ma.

Bear says even at 7am on a sunday morning, the MRT trains are already packed.
Go figure as to the situation during normal peak hours.
MRT packed on a early sunday morning are mostly those old stupid singaporeans going for exercise, cowboy dance class, breakfast, or walk walk...for most youngs like me and foreigners, sleep like pig till 12 noon also can hardly wake up.
Sometime Singaporeans have to blame themselves for overly too health concious ya,,,..until MRT also get packed up..relax lah
SMRT also do advertising business and collect rentals from tenants from their stations hor.
each MRT stations have their billboards and tenants from stations such as Dhoby Ghaut, Tampines, Simei, Eunos, Tanjong Pagar and many more.
Does SMRT cater to companies for transporting services for their staff? I bet they do isnt it.
Trains and bus are public services and should not be measured by profit alone.
I travel in UK last week and most of my trips are riding on the trains. Most of the time I got a seat and the trains are on time and efficient.
I travel back to Beijing, those trains although are crowded but pretty cheap and effiicient too (0.4SGD) single trip.
I returned to Singapore and shit place for public transport. Weather is hot, long wait for trains in-btws, transfers are confusing, service at the train station is worse than 3rd world and unhelpful.
I hopped on a trip to KL, alas, their trains are new and services better than Singapore.
I walk the talk all the time in my company, if I am the CEO or CFO of SMRT, I will give up my car and travel on train until my customers are fully satisfy with my service.
even the air conditioning at MRT they also want to save. do you know how hot and stuffy it is inside mrt when it is so overcrowded with people. air conditioning is non existent and we are breathing in carbon dioxide in the carriages.
in e first place if you look at SBS's case, they dun make most of their profit from fare collection, it mostly came from bus ads.

Who the hell reads bus ads?
Everybody is either busy sleeping or listening to their Ipods or playing their gameboys.

Those TVs were a profit-making venture for SBST. If anything their installation should have caused fares to drop.
Frankly, I'd rather pay more to silence that crap rubbish they dared inflict on their 'captive audience'.

but it's e source of revenue for bus operators

Then the companies who think advertising on buses is useful are really throwing good money away.
