Imagine the height of the tunnel they need to dig..

Since when do they need to be accountable to Singaporeans? Dream on. When there is a train crash and commuters die, you can rest assured that the PAP family members will not be affected.
Standard template press replies, "50 year freak accident" and "honest mistake".
I have a new idea. apply MRP from 7.30am to 9.30am, and also from 5.30pm to 7pm. guarantee solve the overcrowding problem in MRT.

There's no need to increase the size of the tunnels, as existing MRT carriages can easily be converted to "double deckers" simply by installing an additional floor halfway between the existing floor and roof.
Sure, headroom might be a little tight on each deck and passengers will have to squat, but you'll have two decks and double the capacity in each carriage!

LOL.. what a funny idea !!
ERP/MRP are congestion pricing. Another form of income discrimination.

simple. just add more carriage.
i know all platforms are for 6 carriages.
if there's extra carriage, passengers must go out from the first few carriages.
spore either too much people or too little trains.simple logic not rocket or space age science.

The rolling stock in Singapore is roughly 3.7 metres in height. Double-decker trains as used in Sydney are 4.4 metres in height, so the tunnels would need to handle trains 70 cm taller than the current stock.
The reason the double-deckers aren't so much taller, is that the lower floor level sits below the wheels between the axels.
the facts that i see so many MRT in the world are usually jam packed, what is wrong with singapore MRT, kangeroos aside, the tube at london is alway jam, same goes to thai BTS, hongkong MTR and jap JTR tokyo line, KMT of korea also jam up at seoul, therefore, i believe MRT is mend to be crowded, it should be that way, not for leisure seating like VIP coaches ya, it mend for squeezing, rushing and hoping, that is the spirit of underground train ya, if not, built for what...i mean you guys go think about it, me driving car and riding motorbike, seldom take MRT

True True, i think PAP thinks the same too, Singaporeans needs to squeeze more and they dont take MRT too! With more foreigners stressing the transport system, Singaporeans can improve their squeezing skill.
Taipei is making a mistake with 1 min interval during peak hours. If only we can blackout the news like the pre-internet days to make Singaporeans happy... I guess we need more propaganda to compare with third world countries to make Singaporeans happy. Singaporeans need to realise how lucky they are compared with Indonesia or Cambodia. Ah! Repeating many times about the jam-packed Tokyo JR helps too! Highlight all the negative things about the Tokyo JR and ignore the good points...

if not MRT can implement fare discount for commuters taking mrt during peak hours, like from 6.30am to 7.30am and from 5-6pm, half price if you take mrt rides during this hour.
Even China can provide cheaper MRT fare and service than SMRT.
$0.45 SGD can take u any station in China. While SMRT fare can go up to $1.50SGD from one point to another.
there are a few alternatives to managing overcrowding. one is to deploy more train drivers during peak hours, like maybe 1 train in 2 mins arrival thingy.

Ya... I have taken the train in Taipei and there is a train every 3 mins regardless of peak hours or not and the fare is cheaper, NT$1.60 from 1 end of Taipei to another end.

My goodness, so cheap. Yet foreigners still say Singapore is a cheap city, yes SINGAPORE IS CHEAP LIKE A WHORE!
the best is to implement MRP/ERP lar. whoever take train during peak hours pay extra 1 - 2 dollars. but MRT must also dropped its fare when not in peak hours, like 20-30 off normal fare.
if people complain, tell them to take cab, its much cheaper still when taking mrt.

yeah. having been in sydney in 2006 i know. the boarding level is actually at the middle then it splits into an upper and lower deck. quite cool in fact.
if not ask the bus companies like SBS and MRT to provide more express buses and routes lar during peak hours, but reduce fare from $3 to $1.50-$2 lar.
sound like singapore public transport belongs to Rooney's grandpa

rooney, whatever you call it, peak pricing or off-peak discount. it is still income discrimination.
Congestion pricing only means that those who can AFFORD it.. gets to travel at a convenient time.
That only results lowering poorer commuters' quality of life.
Imagine you are a busy working parent.. and you need to send and fetch your child to and from school, will you rather pay the higher fee or be late ? or spend less time with your family to save several hundreds of dollars per year ?
Or you are a student that needs to travel to school during peak hours, what will you do ? wake up at 4am just to avoid the higher rate ? What happens to your quality of life ?
When public transports is the ONLY means of transport for a person, this kind of pricing scheme greatly impacts the common commuter.
Congestion pricing is discriminatory, else it will never work.
