however, opposition will rise with a weak existing govt..the reason why there is so little opposition is only because the current one is very strong (not that we are happy but because we are weak)...
It is a fact that there is growing discontents - and this will go on until LKY is gone...unless u have a very dominant leader like him....there is a strong possibility of internal rife with govt scholars following the most powerful person or clique in the parliament

The mods are good at it,arent they?I bet they are also good at spying others like secret police or KGB.
Anyway,i think the topic should be:"Are PAP ready to accept opposition parties n share power with them in the parliament?"
a small problem will become big if it is ignored - it is the same mentality faced by many empires of the past who thought they are impregnable..invincible...but when a tumultuous event hits on its very core, it collapses with the surprise and disbelief of all.
The vicious cycle of history will often repeat. A social or economic problem does not subsist mainly due to the general indicators of food and water or any other superficial indexes, and it is well known fact that economists often fare badly than top notch traders who feels the actual beats of the market than stuck in ivory towers.
Opposition is a good barometer to indicate relatively how strong the existing govt and the strength and quality of oppositions. It also shows how reactive and concerned are the public towards country affairs. It needs to be there no matter how weak or strong they are...its only a matter of time (but not now) they could grow more powerful depending on the leadership...and i m sure they are planning and plotting real hard and strike when time is right (as long as LKY is alive) - goes without saying....

Dr Chee is right. It takes only a few good men to spark off a social disobedience and I agree with that. Unfortunately he was not one of those 'good men'. There were only 2 as far as I see and one is now dead. Mr Chiam amd Mr Jeyer.
Mr Chiam?? that stroke guy???no way men,..it need a young, full of strength and persuaive powder to do the job,..and i think, i can do it.

I have got your points.
I second your suggestion on the topic should be:"Are PAP ready to accept opposition parties n share power with them in the parliament?"
Those forumers who genuinely contribute to Speakers' Corner are banned or missing in action. The one who is here purely to disrupt discussions to seek attention to himself herself are still around. Sigh! Probably this sicko has special connection to jason.

agree. In some instances when people stand firm other Singaporeans don't like them and tell them off. It is also a matter of lack of unity among the people that there is no possibility of civil disobedience , this in a way allows the ruling party to take more and more advantage of the people.

So many people "disobedient" online, in real life all diam diam
WOw now we have people arguing for disobedience for disobedience's sake. what is the world coming to. civil disobedience is not the value here it is the ability to be 'disobedient' i.e. having the freedom to do so without fear of government that should be the focus here!
This goes to show that even these bloggers are not independent thinkers and are rebelling against the status quo for the sake of it. Blind rebellion and blind following are two sides of the same coin u know

YOur thinking is very outdated.
A navy regular after voting for opposition was promoted.
With this sort of thinking, kiasu kiasi , no wonder we are stuck with PAP for so long
Have to thank you and all other kiasu kiasi sinkies for it.
i agree totally with fantagf - why so kiasu kiasi and yet grumble...might as well polish pap shoes and be their shoe shine boy
i think if there is a war, applying dotaro's logic is that is if u go against the enemy, u will get killed u will get tortured...better be safe and be a traitor than be sorry...
