It is a fact that there is growing discontents - and this will go on until LKY is gone...unless u have a very dominant leader like him....there is a strong possibility of internal rife with govt scholars following the most powerful person or clique in the parliament

a small problem will become big if it is ignored - it is the same mentality faced by many empires of the past who thought they are impregnable..invincible...but when a tumultuous event hits on its very core, it collapses with the surprise and disbelief of all.
The vicious cycle of history will often repeat. A social or economic problem does not subsist mainly due to the general indicators of food and water or any other superficial indexes, and it is well known fact that economists often fare badly than top notch traders who feels the actual beats of the market than stuck in ivory towers.
Opposition is a good barometer to indicate relatively how strong the existing govt and the strength and quality of oppositions. It also shows how reactive and concerned are the public towards country affairs. It needs to be there no matter how weak or strong they are...its only a matter of time (but not now) they could grow more powerful depending on the leadership...and i m sure they are planning and plotting real hard and strike when time is right (as long as LKY is alive) - goes without saying....

Dr Chee is right. It takes only a few good men to spark off a social disobedience and I agree with that. Unfortunately he was not one of those 'good men'. There were only 2 as far as I see and one is now dead. Mr Chiam amd Mr Jeyer.

agree. In some instances when people stand firm other Singaporeans don't like them and tell them off. It is also a matter of lack of unity among the people that there is no possibility of civil disobedience , this in a way allows the ruling party to take more and more advantage of the people.

WOw now we have people arguing for disobedience for disobedience's sake. what is the world coming to. civil disobedience is not the value here it is the ability to be 'disobedient' i.e. having the freedom to do so without fear of government that should be the focus here!
This goes to show that even these bloggers are not independent thinkers and are rebelling against the status quo for the sake of it. Blind rebellion and blind following are two sides of the same coin u know

u may not get into gahmen job or GLC, even if work inside gahmen or GLC, will not get promotion, apply for BTO will always kena lousy q number, apply for this and that related to gahmen may not get it, worst still, your children ballot for sch cannot get, apply for this for yr children rejected, scholarship may also be rejected or get a grade lower than rest, when dead, may not be able to get a proper q for crematorium, becos YOU VOTED OTHERWISE!
