FOR 22-year-old Chinese National Tang Yi, adjusting to life to Singapore involved a few culture shocks that resulted in sometimes unpleasant experiences.
One such cultural misunderstanding arose from queueing to draw money from the ATM.
Recalling his bad encounter, Tang Yi, who has been working in Singapore for two years now, told RazorTV: 'In China, we are so used to standing very close to one another when queueing up for the ATM. Usually, even if you bump into someone, you just apologise and the person will smile and say it is okay.'
'But that time, there was an auntie in front of me, maybe because I was in a rush...I took a step forward and bumped into her. I immediately said 'oh so sorry, so sorry!', but she still gave me a nasty stare.'
It took a while for Tang Yi to understand that queueing too close to another person, especially at an ATM, was considered rude behaviour by Singaporeans. On hindsight, Tang Yi told RazorTV, he wished someone had taken the time to stop and explain why he should not have stood so close.
To hear what Tang Yi had to say, and to find out what Singaporeans think of the issue, catch RazorTV's miniseries 'Different Cultures, One Home'

Oh yes. We singaporeans can scold them however we like. But those PRCs don't have any rights to make any comments about us.
We should keep up with this kind of behaviour so that we can discourage any foreign talents coming here ya

Singaporeans are generally not tolerant to such happenings but it's part of our culture, Like it or not its here to stay.
They come to a foreign land, they LEARN to adapt to OUR CULTURE not try to add elements of their own culture into ours, that's the first step to gaining respect from the locals.
Anyone disagree with me, feel free to rebuke.
what sick minds thats in spore now....
A mere nasty stare? That is pretty normal if you were to bump into someone..esp. if it was in his case..
It's all due to PAP policies. It's all due to PAP. Nothing but PAP. PAP must be voted out in next elections.

PAP rocks big time. I love PAP.
Don't like it here, shut up and return China. We Singaporeans are not hard up for their presence here. The only greedy souls who love them here are lky, lhl and the pap's ministers. They love them here to suck their money $$$$$$$.

With PAP in power, putting endless pressure on citizens, how to be courteous society?
With despots like LKY holding on to power, how to be gracious?

I believed Traitor is correctly used for someone who does not have any support for the ruling Government, and especially when that ruling Government is also the Founding Government of the country.
The fact is that there are so many Traitors like yourselves in Singapore who would caused distortion among the people by cursing the ruling Government on a whim, prevent the people from having an identity and unity in Singapore.
So tell me, how do you expect the people to be united and find their identities when they have been fed with so many anti-Government propaganda caused by Traitors such as yourselves?
People would be more united if you tell them you are in the same boat with them, but no.....Traitors like yourselves are telling people that you are on a luxury cruise of rebellion and you would rescue them from their broken sinking platform.
If you find that you constantly needed to convince many Singaporeans to turn against their own Government and put their future at risks, then you are just one of the Traitors and don't expect any sensible citizens to respond to your callings.
