Nonsense.
It doesn't matter who you vote for - opposition or incumbent.
They will still squeeze money from you after the elections.
Just because you voted incumbent, you pay less GST? Less ERP? Less COE?
Everybody pays.
Yes, everybody.

What 66.6% of votes did the PAP get in Election 2006 ?That is a big lie that the PAP make to give themselves some legitimacy.
The total number of electorates in the Registered Voters Roll numbered 2,147,840 Singaporeans.
The Total number of votes that the PAP received in the Election 2006 was 748,130 votes.
This represent only 34.83% from the List of Registered Voters.
What kind of legitmacy is this when one consider that the ‘Total Population of 4,401,400 Singaporeans – from 0 to 65 years and over (July 2006 est)’ (*1) - the PAP can only get 748,130 votes ?
Comparing the Singapore Election held in this Little Red Dot, the Indonesian had conducted their Presidential Election 2009 across thousands of islands.
Still the near impossible tasks saw that the ‘Indonesians had a Registered List of Voters that numbered 171,265,442 citizens; and the Total Votes countered was 104,099,785 votes’ (*2) - which gives the Election Results a greater representative results of the will of the Indonesian population.
I think theres some error there.
You need to look at more sets of numbers rather than total registered voters and total voted for PAP.
They are the total number voted (ie, ppl who actually turned up), votes for PAP, and then the list of registered votes just to get a feel of the voter turn out.
Total votes out was 1,123,000. Out of which 748,130 voted for the PAP. Total registered was as you said, (didn't verify), 2,147,840.
So to get the voting percentage u divide 748,130 / 1,123,000 * 100. That gives about roughly 66%
wah heng.... i dont have to vote and never will have to vote... LKY's area... no one dare come and compete... walk-over..

No PAP loyalty discount card?
But those single wards held by opposition do show some neglect by the government.

What's the harm?
You throw in an inexperienced candidate and depending on the % votes he gets in the polls, people can still use the % margin as a guage of the incumbent's popularity.
Plus it will be useful and good experience for the new candidate, sort of a baptism of fire.

There is no such thing as "discount" in the vocab of the PAP.
Only "subsidy".
Even then, it is by their definition of the word.

Maybe after the whole big mess, he comes out a fired ginea pig.
Or perhaps they could throw forth a sandbag into the fray?
Just that, wonder how green Opp. candidates these days end up...

You never know what is going to happen.
If I can recall correctly, a team of young unknowns from the opposition got about over 30% of the votes against the PM's team in amk GRC in the last election.

Wow, never heard of that.
Then again, didn't bother going about to hear anything at all.

I guess you did not get the drift of my post which highlighted the irony of the Singapore situation that with such a small population of 4.5 million, the electoral roll of registered citizen voters had numbered only half of the population.
Further more, looking at the roll of registered voters of 2,147,840 citizens only - (as PR do not vote) - the PAP could only get 748,130 votes.
The numbers were checked and counted several times from wiki's info on Singapore Election 2006, and data published from the Election Office.
Considering that Indonesia and Japan have larger population that spread across several islands and larger land mass - the number of citizens actually involved in the electoral process was far higher then the pathetic numbers in Singapore.
Despite the vast land and population size, the number of votes that went to the elected representative in the Indonesian and Japanese Election - would have given them far more legitimacy than the pathetic results of 748,130 votes that would actually amount to 34.83% of the Register Number of Voters.
Some will say that this is due to the Alternative Political Parties not putting up candidates to allow for PAP walk-over in so many constituencies, and is no fault of the PAP.
Unfortunately, this is the disingenious part of LKY's scheme to create advantage to the PAP - and is part of his characteristic "kiasi-kiasu" gerrymandering strategies to win the Elections at any cost.
Singapore with a tiny land mass and a population size that is smaller then New York State, and even Jakarta, or even Switzerland - will have far more constituencies and candidates to be elected to Parliament.
This is LKY's ploy to handicap the Alternative Political Parties - and is only one aspect of his intricate grand scheme that is deliberately designed o make the election process a series of formidable hurdles, to trip any ambitious Singaporean who have the desire to be a Member of Parliament - and to be the alternative voice for the people.
Well, not all governments are perfect. But there is one thing for sure, no government can last forever.
Just use your vote wisely.
Taking revenge has its own karma. Its not too difficult to see what the karma is.
But don't vote for clown party, which tries too hard getting international attention, to infringe our political sovereignty.
We can solve our own problems, people.
The PAP government has so far ensure our economical growth as always. At least it doesn't gave itself an excuse that it is failing the people, like Japan's recent change of government.
The people took more than a decade to kick out LDP in favour of DPJ, even when the economy is doing so-so or not so good at all.
However, apart from economic progress, I have seen little progress in the social cohesion of the people. More and more often, family units get broken up due to third-party PRC women who are only on PR. The government left this social problem to private family counselling organisations.
A lack of foresight.
In fact, due to our pursue of economic progress, social problems were introduced indirectly, and not adequate solved quickly enough to damage our society.
As you are aware, Singapore is legalising gambling within our 2 IRs.
However, loansharks are trying to be in the "Singapore market" before the games begin. Fortunately, our government wants to deal with this now. Sadly, families were already affected.
So see, as people and citizens of Singapore, we should be thinking more into what sort of progress we want to be in other than economic progress.
God bless Singapore.

The government of the 80s and 90s at least still had some heart.
These past few years, it's been only dollars and cents.
Not exactly true. I have read that a regular at Navy voted for opposition and after election he was promoted.
Why let PAP bother you in voting for oppositions?

I first heard this when I was a kid. My parents told me next time must always vote for PAP because they say that your vote is secret is rubbish and after the election the PAP will check who vote for the opposition party and than take revenge on them.
The 2nd time I heard this was during my teritary days. 1 of my classmate said that her bf voted for the opposition party and the PAP take revenge by sacking him from the civil service (he is working as a a civil servant at that time and he vote for the oppsoition party).
Can anyone verify if this is true
Well, i have yet to vote before, let me check it out with those election official around.
The funniest part is those who condemned and criticised the PAP govt, are mostly the ones ending up voting for them.
Well
I admit I voted for PAP before
