You are right. Met someone who just arrived in sg from China. She was so bubbly and happy that she was here. Later after finding out about the ways of the ruling party she changed her mind to become citizen and made decision to earn $ and return to China.

I am disappointed that Mr Clinton seems to have no idea on how oppressed we are.

seriously, dude, this is NOT the place to get info....
on one hand, there's lionnoisy who thinks that Singapore is God's gift to the world, and on the other hand, there are guys like fantagf, andrewpkyap, and poh ah pak who thinks that we are ruled by a despot who deserve to die a horrible death....
if you have friends in the real world (as oppose to the cyber world), talk to them, or come over and chat with people at the coffee shop... these opinions are probably more balanced.

Prices are always rising including gst but wages remains the same throughout the years and we even have to compete with foreigners who do not need to serve ns and are willing to accept lower wages.
An average 3 or 4 room hdb flat costs around 300k.
With the average singaporeans salary of around 1.5k to 2k for a diploma holder, 2k to 3k for a degree holder, you need to work and slog for your entire life just to finish paying for that small house of yours.
So you think its good to stay in singapore? If you work in malaysia, do you need to work for 30 to 40 years to pay for a small pathetic house to stay?
icic. never thought of it that way

personally, i think that the example is flawed...
sure the flat cost about what is quoted, however, your salary does not remain stagnant, plus there's the CPF contribution.
also one can choose to move, upgrade, or downgrade.
staying in Malaysia.... well, the best solution is to work in Singapore and stay in Malaysia.
however working in Malaysia and staying in Malaysia, the problem is not very different, cheap housing? perhaps, but low salary, and no safety and security.
how many Malaysians have you heard of, coming to Singapore to work vs how many Singapore have you heard of, going to Malaysia to work....all on local payscale?
The only good thing I can think about singapore is its a safe country to stay in with low crime rates.
But with the rising costs, you are struggling to stay alive here with your low wages that never increases, having a safe country to live in does very little to help

low wages? all depends on who you are and what you do. what would you get based on your current job scope/education/qualification if you are to work in Malaysia?

Salary increase is not in proportion to the increase in prices and gst. Prices and gst increases much more than your wages espically with the influx of foreigners, why should bosses give you pay increment when he can get cheaper foreigners to work for him?
For a family consisting of kids, husband and wife they need at least a 3 room flat to stay for so many people.
So what flawed downgrading are you talking about?
From a 3 room flat you want to downgrade to a 1 room flat and squeez in the husband, wife and kids to stay together?
Totally nonsense.
Wake up your idea!

Of course the salary in malaysia is lower but the costs are lower too and the government do not import in tonnes of foreigners into malaysia to further press down the wages to make the locals life even harder.
Stop bootlicking the PAP!

You are right. But obviously in the past he has been denying it. He disappeared for a long while and is back now to hit at people.

need to know Bahasa.... kids get educated in Bahasa..... no English education, no future.
walk around not safe, Malaysia garmen in a mess, racial tension, blah blah..
i'd rather pay more gst....

Everyone who exposes the PAP in running the country is flawed in their words. Only you are perfect.
I don't see you whack any PAP supporters.

i have a couple of colleagues who is doing that..... and we are all envious of their pay.. because the moment they cross the causeway, it more than doubles.
there are bus-kelang that ferries some of these fortunate folks daily.
apparently all the oppressed people still do not have the ability to emigrate....
