According to the story writer Ken Kwek, the movie can be read as an allegory of contemporary Singapore: 'Think of The Blue Mansion as Singapore and all its goings-on as part of the life of this country.'

Watched it last night with some friends. Everyone thought it was best local film we have seen. Also very funny parody of a tyrant with powerful wife, 2 sons and 1 spinster daughter, who sues all his enemies until bankrupt! He dies and is condemned to purgatory. He has a gigantic ego and thinks he knows everything but makes everyone around him miserable.
