This hilarious article reminds me of a The Blue Mansion, a movie that is playing now! I wonder how much of it is accurate and how much is urban myth. But the hilarious take in the movie of the old man dying and coming back to see how unloved he was, his brutality in enforcing his will at all cost to individual happiness, casts a different light on him. There is no heart in the Singapore he created.
Ho Chi Minh is much loved in Vietnam, Mao and Stalin have lost their immortality when the enormous cost of their actions have come to light. It will be interesting to see how LKY will be seen by future generations. Is efficiency (though I disagree that Singapore is efficient - there are many distortions from the state controlling so much of the country's money and how it is spent by a bureaucracy) and corruption free (relatively speaking) enough to ensure one's historical legacy? Or will he be vilified for destroying the cultural roots like dialect, the imposition of a mistaken biligual policy which has effectively made Singaporeans handicapped in BOTH English and Mandarin (we speak an embarassing Mandarin version of Singlish as well), a society that has money as the primary goal including government salaries (a society that has no sense of noblesse oblige)...

Chain of events over the years impacted singapore. It is how it is because of what we experienced. War, british ruling.. communism etc..
LKY was influenced by the early events that happened in S.E.A
Hence his strict political rulings, law and equal rights.
Yes, i agree that not all his decisions are popular. But why are we not praising what he have done? Equal rights for everyone etc.
The government system is a bit lacking in certain departments, but not a bad job overall right?
Nobody is perfect, i guess, to survive in singapore we gonna be flexible and rid onto whatever system that works for us. Not against it.
He did step down a long time ago.. even thu he do still influences the world.. we can choose not to listen to him right? But we still do.. why? cause he sets the standards..
Anyway, what would an ideal singapore system be like?
No tax? Lower Tax? How will that work? Short-term yes, long term? Maybe not...then again, how will the average singaporean like myself know about running a country or to govern it's financial system? Surprisingly, alot of the pp amazingly know how to?
Let the government do the job, they're doing fine.. so far~ -
