I been here for 4 years and found that singaporeans complain alot about low wages, high property prices, high taxes. But you see, most singaporeans have not lived in other countries and therefore 'Think' that they are being surpressed. I used to think that too so i cant really say much. Trust me the world out there is alot worst !
You all are being protected and shelter by the goverment. Just give you a little hint, do you know that singapore is ranked 26 when it comes to quality of life In the World.
Here in the USA, many people lost their homes due to the housing collaspe and now live in tents or the streets. I would say singaporeans are lucky that their properties have always risen in value. Medical insurance is way too expensive 2000/year for myself. Many people in USA rather die than see a doctor and millions are without insurance (unable to see a doctor). A classmate broke his thumb and it cost him 15000 USD to fix it. My aunt was involved in a car accident and 5 stitches and one night in the hospital totaled $60,000 !!!!! Can you believe it?
In singapore at least you have poly clinic. Around my university, we cant come out after 9pm because we are afraid of getting shot. Trust me its dangerous. Kids walking on the street get shot by stray bullets. The unemployement is 10% national-wide and detroit has unemployment at 30%, meaning 3 people out of 10 you see on the street dont work at all.Income taxes are 30% or more, meaning three days out of then you work for the goverment. Taxes are raising too. Property taxes are 10% on a property, eg. $20000 a year for a $200000 dollar house. University rates are 40,000 half a year, compared to a few thousand you pay in NUS.And many students have to work and study at the same time because they just cant pay it.
So please. Dont complain.
i did not complain... now what i nid to do is just study hence it don't really affect me u see
to fanta,
florist werking as assistants having a hard time.........hmmm
but i bet those in other industries r still doin ok.from what i heard in the past from the usa contractors, its a norm there all the time.they have the dole n food coupons to fall back on instantly unlike spore where one uses savings n shivers in hunger when cash runs out.
im confident the americans will pull thru again as usual.
fanta,
oops...misread....must be overworked in oz.
had no idea florists could survive in this recession.i guess its how they balance the budget.
oz was totally unaffected by recession.its still the same as it was years ago.
To Ivan LEEEE, I am not sure of your family background, but how i wish I can be in your shoes, studying in an american university. Well, since there's so much things that you would prefer in s'pore than in american, maybe god migiht be fair to grant me the opportunity to go to american while you will be granted with your dream to stay in s'pore......lets hope things change for us !!

Well, it is the norm for people to complain. If people do not whine or complain, the situation would not improve wor... so you rather everything stay status quo?

Such will not happen in Singapore.
I was at the bus stop, saw someone spitted at the rubbish bin. After that saw an old women digging the rubbish bin for stuff. After the old woman left, there came a man doing the same. This is the same rubbish bin.
When I saw this scenario it really pains my heart. What has become of Singapore, why do we have such heartless govt???
fanta,
is this the sign of the beginning of the end????????
Originally posted by Arapahoe:well they might have but this couple was in the news....and i am not surprise...I recycle by bottle and cans just from my own personal consumption is about 15 bucks.
Oh mine, after reading this post of yours, I think we are shortchanged. I usually place the bottles, plastic materials in the yellow big plastic bag given by the govt for recycling. I was glad that the govt does not charge for helping us to dispose these items. Now that I read what you said, I think I will stop contributing my bottles, plastic materials and pass them on to the govt. Oh I see, the govt probably want these items to make money out of them.
Shitty PAP, mercenary PAP.

Depends on how one views it. Personally, I think so.

What Bugs Me
China woman denounces Singaporean citizenship on China National TV
STOMPer Stuntman Mike was shocked when he came across this video of a Chinese woman denouncing her Singaporean citizenship on China’s National television.
In the video, it is mentioned that Zhang Yuan Yuan was a student in Singapore and had obtained Singaporean citizenship. She later chose to head back to China, and subsequently joined the army to serve her country.
In an email to STOMP today (Oct 4), the STOMPer says:
“This video shows how a PRC woman proudly denounces her Singapore pink IC to return to China.
“With the influx of Foreign Talents, can we afford to trust them?
“After this incident, are we to treat them as equals?”

I love and admire what she did.

Don't think she denounce her citizenship, it's more like renounce. There is nothing wrong with the video, she has a right to choose. What irks me is that the ICA is giving out citizenship like flyers, most people would accept the citizenship first before making any careful consideration, in the end they just give it up, making citizenship in Singapore look cheap (like the whores in Geylang), not saying that it is highly regarded in the first place.
Is it PRship or citizenship?
Some reports state she was a sg PR, some reports state she was a sg citizen.
The picture of her IC looks pinkish/bluish, so hard to identify.

You see the IC pic on this page - left side pinkish, right side blueish.
Or maybe my computer colour / contrast is crap.

Not citizen, according to report, she is just a PR.

Pink IC - citizen.
Blue IC - PR.
The colour of the IC should be more accurate in determining her exact status.
If she is a PR, I see no problem in her returning and participating - ultimately she is still a chinese national.
But if she chose sg citizenship, then it's not too nice. It cheapens the citizenship since she has switched citizenship twice - from china to singapore and then back to china again.
it is blue ic not pink
because country of birth - china
no wonder so many singapore bye bye singapore migrate to other countries
media can covered technology impossible
see china women do ns why singapore women LL and die die cannot do ns
why why why
really pissed off
