Do you want the TRUTH? You think you can tell the difference between what's apparent and real? Ever watched the Matrix?
Current trends and official policies suggest that within the next 8 years, just slightly fewer than 1 in 2 people you see on the streets will not be a Singaporean. What really is going on? What are the implications for those born and bred and rooted in this country?
PRs on average are more highly skilled, or they are willing to fill roles which retain economic values. Hence on average they will earn more than Singaporeans ==> the real purpose is to expand our tax base, so govt can collect more taxes! Singaporeans are ageing, we are spoilt, we do not have necessary skills or not willing to do necessary work, our indigenous competitive advantage is shrinking as new global powers emerge, and we are not reproducing fast enough.... we are a declining economic force. The inevitable is that, left to nature, we as a nation is past our peak in prosperity, influence and relevance.
With the concept of PR immigration, we as indigenous Singaporeans just need to sit back and become bureaucrats... create the infrastructure of roads and MRTs, vote the right govt to create political stability, rent out our houses to give them accommodation... then sit back and collect taxes for our old
age! THAT'S OUR BUSINESS MODEL ! What u think? I think it makes perfect sense! Ties in with the casino thingy...to expand our tax base, sustain our tax revenue, defy the odds of decay and old age, Ni4 Tian1 Er2 Xing2 ! We're preparing for retirement and beyond, Singaporeans! So what should we as Singaporeans do? SIMPLE: buy property (and properties if you can afford), vote PAP, support the party policies, spend a little in taxes to invest in infrastructure, welcome the PRs....show them we are great, entertain them, make them feel safe and secure. COS THEY WILL BE THE ONES FOOTING OUR OLD AGE BILLS!
The rise and fall of nations is as inevitable as the cyclicality of seasons. But survival against the odds of natural selection and evolution is the hallmark of humanity. The ability to conquer what is natural requires true intelligence. A little planning, some concerted effort by a united group of people, plus a brilliant leader, and this group of humanity can multiply to take on the global village. The Singapore government has found an exit strategy for us! The end product may not be what we envisioned, but given the circumstances, its not too bad. The issue is not about fighting with the foreigners for jobs (they are too good or too cheap), it is not about who is 1st or 2nd class citizens. The issue is how we can benefit from what the gods have dictated shall be the policy.
We will not be a great nation, we will not be a great people, we may not forge a great identity, but we will do all right being owners of a piece of expensive real estate in the world, owners of a place where others do their businesses, an enabler for the real movers of shakers of the world. After all, its all about retiring in peace and providing for our kids isn't it?
Finally I've broken out of the MATRIX... now I see the TRUTH.

I don't look like Keanu Reeves because I'm not as expressionless as him! But if I have a choice like he did, I would choose the BLUE one... ie the blue PR IC :) I think when you have the PINK IC, the only advantage you have is some HDB grants and the occasional election year ang pows :D No doubt we have built a wonderful country, but one can enjoy its privileges without becoming a citizen.
Have I missed any other privileges as a citizen?

It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure.
