Official stats is that less than a 1000 give up citizenship every year. That is like 0.003% of the Singaporean populace. Why is the govt so worried? I suspect the actual figure to be much higher.
Having lived overseas for 2 years and back in sg now, I am one of those waiting for an opportunity soon. I believe many more think like me.
I think the way they compared the percentages is wrong.
They should give compare it with, those who gave up Singapore against those that went overseas to study.

Those countries with 40% taxes, they will re-distribute income back to the poor, in the form of healthcare, education, housing, food, etc.
That is what taxes are for, it's not a tool to enrich your own pockets (like what they do here).

Those that came back probably did so because of relationship and friendship ties they have here.
While occasionally you will get ppl like udon, who come back to Singapore because of food and the ease of access.

even president of china dun earn as much as ours. But some people here running just a few towns earn more than obama.
People might come back to the country for the food.
But with the massive influx of new citizens from other countries, I reckon local delicacies might be headed for extinction soon.
Better eat them now while they are still selling in the hawker centres and kopitiams.

Very soon we will all be eating Jiao Zi and Guo Tie instead of Chicken Rice and Nasi Lemak.
Coincidentally, Geylang seems to have lots of Jiao Zi and Chinese Styled Steamboats these days.

I wonder why so many PRCs setting up food stalls there?
Cater to the local workforce there?

No need to wait till 2011.
Well, my area is forever walkover one.. No chance to vote at all... From the looks of it, even if 66.6% of the people mai support the ruling party anymore.. it will also take decades to vote them down leh
All is hopeless, my dear friends.. Better cao soon and be 2nd class citizen in other countries.. than to be 3rd class in our own

As the foreign population increases, the demand for their own local food will increase.
Simple economics.
It's the same as if a Singaporean lives in Vancouver - she will crave for Singaporean delicacies and will go to chinatown to see if she can find her favourite local food.

to my understanding , what you said is partially right. only under the extremely high payout rate plan, do your beneficiaries not get anything when u die. i think...
i am not saying that the beneficiaries will not get anything at all.
I am saying that even if you choose the plan with minimum payout, there's a portion of your cpf savings lock down in the scheme, where it is added to the common pool of money, gone for good.
cpf life as i understand, is about you signing up for a premium to pledge a portion of ur cpf money to this retirement pool of money. the more you pledge, the larger the amount you get to collect every month. likewise, the smaller the amount you pledge, the smaller is your monthly payout.
the amount of money pledge is gone for good. it operates on the basis that some people will die early, while some die later. the money of those who died early will be used to support those who lived longer. thats about it.

There will be more fusion food in the future.
Laksa serve with Jiao Zi instead of the usual noodles.
Yang Rou Chuan with satay sauce.
Peking duck rice.

Ultimately the longer the payout is 85 y.o., the more they stand to gain from it, cause not everybody lives till 85 y.o.

Anyway, if a scenario occurs whereby a huge majority of the people in the scheme somehow lived till 100 years old in the future, they will change the scheme again or hold more money back.
It's a win win situation for them because no money will ever come from their pockets.
it's true, the life expectancy says men in sg live till 77. Look around and most die of some illness by their 50s to 70s.
Annuity is not a plan which everyone can afford to take. Now we are being forced this shit.
mtalking about food, maybe nex time got laksa with wasabi? haha!
