Pirates attempt to board bulker in Singapore Strait
ARMED pirates attempted to board a capesize bulker in the Singapore Strait on Sunday evening.
Five pirates armed with machine guns attempted to board the Trasmed
Shipping owned, 173,028 dwt bulker, Good Luck, close to Pulau Nipa,
between the east and west bound lanes of the Singapore Strait according
to a report from the Regional Co-operation Agreement on Combating
Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships.
The Cyprus-registered vessel was anchored in Indonesian waters at 1845
hrs on August 30 when five pirates armed with two machine guns
attempted to board the vessel.
The ship’s master raised the alarm and the pirates aborted the attempt to board the vessel.
The Good Luck is the third vessel to be attacked by pirates in
the Nipa transit anchorage since the end of March this year. In the two
earlier attacks tugs were boarded by pirates armed with guns and
knives.
ReCAAP urged ship masters to maintain vigilence at all times and adopt
counter measures such as raisng all alarm signals and mustering the
crew. It said early detection of an attack was the best deterrent as
the incident on the bulker demonstrated.

Except that not the whole of the singapore straits were within the boundaries of singapore.
Malacca Straits is not wholly Malaysian territory.
Just like the whole Indian Ocean not belonging to India.
For more information, please read the article.
straits of singapore is probably bigger than sinagapore mainland. if u walk the street got rob. are u goin to ask where is the police? one of the forumers also said, robbers dont rob in front of the police. use yr brain la. dont anhow blame the navy, blame the coast guard.
LTA reyes,
RSN
RSN cant cover all of the straits. Unless a distress call is given out, there is nothing much the Navy or Coast Guard could do about it unless they happen to be there.
Anyway its in Indonesian waters, Blame the Indonesian Navy.

yeah maybe fall asleep....
"It's about doing things better in the spirit of ASEAN sovereignty, and the beginning of co-operation between the littoral states," he added.
The EiS is a component of the Malacca Straits Security Initiative aimed at attaining maritime domain awareness over the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. It will initially be undertaken by the three littoral states – Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore – together with Thailand.
The armed forces of the participating countries will provide resources like maritime patrol aircraft and a combined maritime patrol team on board the aircraft.
With an EiS Operations Centre established in each of the participating countries, the aircraft will conduct two patrols a week, along the designated sectors of the area of operations.

Again you fall asleep, wonder how u r going to take your MBA.
Please dun be so straight jacket type, tho all countries around the region on the surface voted to curb pirates along the strait of Malacca, each is waiting for each to put in funds and effort, and bear in mind those who had interest along that strait will definitely put in more effort while those who do not gain much from the trade road will just wait and see. Even that, the efficiencies of each Navy is also questionable, if you at the indonesia Navy, i have no doubt some of them also have a hand on pirates activities. In the news alone, recently a sg Navy guy was charged for helping Indonesia Navy to smuggle cigarette into Singapore, so how are you going to trust each other. But as said, on the broader and wider view, dining and wineing among the Foreign counterparts is just a show of co operation and togetherness on the surface, but deep down, I have doubt that they co operate and do their uptmost to protect the strait.
Even recently the USA and Jap help out the local navies here, because USA alway want a dominate of sort just like a policeman, and the jap got oil trade interest between Arabs and them. So, if singapore it to maintain the world best port, we have to contribute more than others.
well, not sure whether I am correct, please correct if wrong.
read that the pirates are also armed with high tech weapons, and powerful engines.
importantly, the sea is so vast, and these pirates were using "mother" ships which look like normal shipping boats to refuel, and then launch attacks using powerful smaller speedboats which are harder to detect on radar. hence, easier for them to come close to these bigger ships.
also, unlike planes or cars, even when alarm is activated, it is not immediate that they can zoom there to help so there is a time lag.

Maybe it is your multiple personality disorder and the fact that you like to stick your nose in every threads ass. Or your inabilities to comprehend anything beyond a diploma.
Anti pirates program has gone on for years. It is not something they just started to work out. Maybe you have not heard of ReCAAP and IFC....so why don;t you read up before you make stupid statement about some boy and brought in some other unrelated stuff.
In Military term there is such a thing call measurable sucess.

"A FORMER NSman, who helped some members of the Indonesian navy smuggle a large cache of contraband cigarettes, was jailed for four years and five months by a district court on Wednesday.
Ee Jin Liang, 23, then a lance corporal (LCP) at the Tuas Naval Base, appeared stunned when sentence was passed.
Senior District Judge Tan Siong Thye said while the jail term may seem harsh for a first offender like Eem, it serves as a deterrent to others.
'If not deterred, some other national serviceman could be bribed to look the other way,' he said.
'We can ill afford such security compromise in today's context as terrorism is very real and terrorists will exploit security lapses and cause massive public mayhem and destruction of human lives and property.'
The judge also pointed out that the amount of contraband involved was one of the highest to have come before the courts.
Excise duty and goods and services tax (GST) unpaid on these cigarettes came up to more than $3 million.
Ee had pleaded guilty last Thursday.
He was assigned to ferry the Indonesian personnel who were here for meetings with the Singapore Navy at the Changi Naval Base.
It was during these meetings that Ee helped the Indonesians move the contraband out of the base.
Investigations revealed that the Indonesians were in cahoots with a syndicate here that sold the smuggled cigarettes locally."
Yo, open your bloody eyes and read hor, not all are so goondo smart like you who have too much education that make you a nerdest of all nerdy. Stupid

So what, anti vice has also gone on for years, so it anti crime, anti smoking, anti littering, anti HIV and so on..does it end? No, so they keep on having retreat meeting at some sunshine resort island and plan out there strategy ending up with a nite of partying, drink and eating. All wayang wayang abit and life goes on, you happy, i happy kind of state. If you notice, until the pirates strikes then they take on the action, they are not even proactive enuf to snub them off, and after so many years of anti pirates meeting and lavish eating, why are there still pirates??? Think hor?? seibei goondno one
It would be funny if we read on News Paper...
