Should NS be Reduced or Scrapped?

I only ask for 2 things.
-No need to clear annual IPPT
-Cut reservist from 10 to 5 years.

Reservist get more meaning full as you grew older. Once you complete your cycle you'll know.

Well, they can at least remove the reservice... 2 years of full time NS is enough.

roflmao...just how many countries are dying to go to war with singapore anyway??did singapore really offended so many countries that we need an army to fight??lets face it..SAF is nothing but a showcase for foreign investors..to boost their confidence in SG markets that their investments should be pretty safe in terms of political and security..
besides..war now isnt like the good old days when armies square off each other in a fair strategic PvP...now war is about crippling the economy..no economy= no need to fight, sure lose..u can have a trillion soldiers but no $$ to fund the war..just the upkeep will kill the country first...

$$...SG though small,no resources, f up..but i have to admit the govt through their iron fist had managed to make it rich and themselves rich..sg is still in a strategic location geographically..but once it is occupied by another country..who knows if they can blow hot air as well as the pap now...

And what is wrong with NSmen reservists, most are being paid with what they earn as a civilian, it is a time for them to get together, networking, and as singaporeans, chat about their life and you guys can have your man world. In fact, it also helps our guys to tone up their body, go back to nature and when they go back to work, they feel refreshing, restless vices.

i go oversea forget update NS portal,kena fine $100. i year i travel 50times, kena 1 time , they fine u. that is how they treat a NS men who serve 2.5 yr full time, earn service distinction, got ptomoted 2 times after NS fulltime.
i feel we are being treated for granted!!
i mid 30s liao still kena call back everyyear. IPPT very hard to pass at my age, kena RT and stuff, put additional burden on my already stress out commerical and personal world.
i am pro full time national service. But the regulation for reservist has to be change to pro family. otherwise, ppl like myself will feel disappointed and loyalty to the nation.

if you have sufficient occupational mobility, migrate.That's what i'd do.

They should increase salary of new recruits to $800 / month.

of coz migrate is an option. But i have friends and relatives that cannot be replace in an oversea country. i love my childhood memories, food, friends, family. i would rather change govt .

If the gahmen is not going to revise the foreign workers policy then i think it should scrap NS altogether so as not to disadvantage our local guys in their employment.

What about the fact that conditions in NS are extremely damaging to one's psychology?
What about people who bluntly use their authority to justify the stamping down on supposedly defiant attitudes (when its all based on projecting one's ego), under the guise of discipline?
Even if it is not warranted, the punished is usually left humiliated and resentful because the prevalent mentality is that commanders will usually help their subordinates cover up and the same thinking applies for the SAF's method for seeking redress. What this does for men coming out of SAF is that their worldview has been twisted and their spirit dampened by the injustice and the "suck thumb" mentality that life in NS promotes.
Of course there are other aspects of the psychological damage experienced in SAF, which I hope others will share, and it doesnt help that no one has thought about exposing the barbarous acts taking place in SAF camps.

As I mentioned, I think NS cultivates a spirit of helplessness in men who are treated unjustly by commanders.
If thats the kind of mentality that is bred, the result will be a subservient society that takes authority as truth rather than truth as authority.

I think the government controlled state media and political repression by the government is a bigger factor in creating the subservient Singapore society.

this pro foreigners also can be seen at immigration customs such as changi airport.
i had thumbprint problem so cannot go thru the express selh check machine.
the Singapore normal passport check counters only got 1 nia!!!!
the foreigners got 10 lane!
i got my passport check slower than a foreigners! KNN!! puichow naou!!
