You are talking about yourself
I can explain a bit
In a free markets, the prices fluctuating u and down are dependent on one another,,''
When one of the aspects are being controlled from become too low eg HDB , it just fucks up the rest... so the rest will also move up in tandem
I saw the Khong Guan Sultana Bisuits (with rasins, 200g) selling at 38 bahts ($1.65) in Thailand. Whilst our Fairprice selling it at 2.05 cents at it website.
The pack seling in Thailand is exact packing as that selling in Fairprice. And the pack mentioned 'Product of Singapore'.
The same item selling in Thailand should fetch higher price considering the item needs incur additional logistics charges. And I saw that item in Chiang Mai, not Bangkok.
One cannot deny the fact 'high rental cost' has indeed has an impact to our day to day item.
hi goondu.
u r damn right.

Just go to NTUC you will find out there are more and more price increase for more and more items. Inflation??? So this is the way the govt "help" people to cope with inflation.
My 5 Star Hainanese Chicken Rice was selling at $3.20 last year (after they increased $0.30), I have not had chicken rice for a long time, so I ate it last week, it has increased to $3.80 (2 x $0.30 increases this year).
Breadtalk's Fire Floss used to be $1.30, then $1.40, this year it is $1.50.
HDB flats are "affordable"

They are affordable if you increase the loan term to above 30 years.

There will come a day when it is stretched to 99 years.
That's when HDB flats cost 1 million dollars each.

Chicken rice keeps increasing price so is the price of eggs. Within the same month, the price increase 2 or 3 times. The "kind" govt is not doing anything to control this, shake my head.
Damn it pay and pay!

Upgrade ?
Has anyone noticed that some HDB blocks have been demolished when it get to be about 35 to 40 years ?
This is already seen in the clearance of large swath of old blocks and rebuilding in parts of AMK, in areas bounded by Ave 1, 3, 6 and 8; and also at Ave 3, 5, 8 and 10.
There was a news article in one August 2009 ST daily which had reported that the life span of concrete structures is only good for 40 years.
Using google to check on the life span of concrete - especially when near the sea:
Concrete actually increases in strength as it ages. The deterioration effects of sodium chloride on the lime used to make concrete is now believed to be negligible. The corrosive effects of salt on the re-bar and other metal reinforcements can reduce the structures overall strength.
See http://www.buildingsciences.net/chloride… for further info.
Question now is : Are Singaporeans being short-changed for the 99-year HDB lease, when concrete is only good for 40 years ?
Long suspected that the building would not last 99 yrs, but what i don't understand is why Singaporean continue to speculate on HDB and willing to pay so much ?
