its true many of the policies sucks big time and the govt lacks foresight in running a country..the "mandate of heaven" is already lost...it wont be long before a major change will take place..
govt know that being a middle man doing re exporting will be ousted soon...why else does anyone think they are so keen to be the hub of this and that..but they will fail again..sg is simply too costly for businesses..cost of living does not tally with the miserable standard of living..soon business will move out when bigger cities in places like china upgrades..then byebye sg..all of us will most probably rot here.

Actually Europe very soon will become a has-been. (if not already it is)
Given the inertia of their people, its no surprise that Asia is catching up rapidly. I wouldn't want to be born into Europe, given that this decline has already started.
But then again, Singapore isn't a nice place to be raised in as well. But it's not important isn't it? You can't control what had happened, you can only control what is GOING to happen.
Anyway, coming back to our 'fun-loving' government, I raised a question on why hawker stall rentals must be raised from $900 to $2000 per month when hawker food is one of the controls of the cost of living in Singapore, and they never did give me a satisfactory reply. All they can answer is, it's based on market rate, with no other reasons to back up their raise
So there you have it, a government that says it wants to listen, but then gives you ambiguous answers that end up, "you wasted your time asking, and they still get what they want".

Considering the sheer amount of market share they have on hawker stall rentals, you'd think they were the one who decides the "market" rate.

Well, as I mentioned in a previous thread, there's another place in Sengkang or Punggol, a new hawker cum wet market, that our NEA has used a different approach
they award the management of the place to the highest bidder
Given that Kopitiam bidded $500k management fees per month, and with about 100 stalls in that place, the avg base cost per stall is about $5000 per month.
Given that kind of costs, there's no way hawker food is going to be affordable there.
So there you have it, market rates! :)

Good! Then they can make more profits, the rest of the business cost is passed on to the consumer. Like this, Singapore can have higher GDP, then come election they can tell citizens about the how high the GDP is, without focusing on the cost of living.
