It will be National Day in a couple of days time. What does Singapore mean to me?What is my interpretation of the Pledge?
We,the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion,to build a democratic society, based on justice and equality,so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation.
This is my speech,my message.
"Look around you. In Singapore, we got men from the Chinese , men from the Malays. We've got Chinese, Malay, Indians, Eurasians, Jews and Muslims—all Singaporean. Now here in Singapore, some men in this country may experience discrimination because of race, creed or even nationality, but for you and me now, all that is gone.
We're moving into the valley of the birth of Nationalism, where you will watch the back of the man next to you, as he will watch yours, and you won't care what colour he is or by what name he calls God. They say we're leaving Home, that we're going to JB.No,we're going to what home was always supposed to be.
Let us understand the situation. We're going into battle against a tough and determined enemy. I can't promise you that I will bring you all Home alive, but this I swear, before you and before all mighty Gods : that when we go into battle, I will be the first to set foot on the field, and I will be the last to step off. And I will leave no one behind. Dead or alive, we will all come home together. So help yourselves Singaporeans."
Whether you are malay, javanese, tamil, arab, jew, peranakan, hokkien, foochow, teochew, hakka, cantonese, hainanese or eurasian, we all share the same enemy.
We are like a group of people in the same boat crossing a river, no matter what the differences, we must cooperate, or else we will sink and drown.
We must join forces to deal with the common bastard.
Thanks for your comments, we will submit your feedback to the Chamber of Pledge Council for further discussion.
After much consideration, we will change the pledge to We, the Peoples in Singapore instead of Citizens, we shall submit these changes to the House of Parliament for approval.

you know, sometimes I really wonder if Singapore is my real home. Seriously...
Is it...
A land of peace? (I only see my cousin trying to please my grandparents to gain trust from them and when my grandmother annouced that I will be allocated with 20% of the assets, my cousin started to avoid me)
A land of happily ever after (In my entire education life in Singapore I was NEVER happy, bullied everyday)
I suggest u go out and see the world for a few years then you come back and tell us if singapore is your home or not?
Thank you
next please!

The sentence in red reminds me of a speech by LKY to brainwash our people.
I've forgotten when it was said but its something like... "I will not let Singapore fall even if i die. Never! Even if it is to fall, i will rise from my grave and save them."
Anyone got any clues on this? Sounds touching right? Lol...
"I will not let Singapore fall even if i die. Never! Even if it is to fall, i will rise from my grave and save them."
Dead already how to come back and save?
What bullshit is that?
More of Lee Kuan Yew's filthy mother fucking bullshit.
Fucking baba bastard, Japanese come and kill the chinese here, this bastard go and collaborate with them, still got face come and want to lead the people. Bloody fucker.

that jap soldier should have stabbed hard on the body lying on top of him.
I thought after WWII, those who collaborated with Japanese, the people will go and catch them and then cut off their head?
Why they never catch Lee Kuan Yew and cut off his fucking head?
Must ask Chew Bakar on this.
we, the citizens of singapore, shall proceed willing and unwavering in the task of "beating the crap outta LKY", if we see him unattended to. Regardless of race, language or religion, we singaporeans must unite, portraying violence and discontempt, against the LEE corporation of singapore pte ltd.
:D kewl
National Pledge - how many of us can accept the whole pledge, I really wonder?? !!
Democracy??? Justice and equality???
wahahahah
We need to edit the the pledge.
Pledge - aiyoh, once a year and after all the words are uttered, all the flag waving and 'back-petting' - it is back to the reality and to same old shit.
My opinion - WAKE UP is more real a PLEDGE lar!
Have you people received SMS to encourage people to take/recite the pledge?

I deleted it immediately.
I dont know about these sms(s) but if it is so - it is soliciting lor!
One cannot elicit it from the heart and when it is done so - in this instance, the pledge - it is so artificial, so fake.
Such a feeling simply wells up from within oneself to act or utter .... and there is no need to will someone to it.
Utterly dense.
The pledge was made like a mantra to recite right from the old beginning when there was not much racial harmony, democracy, justice or equality for all but it was sure worth the try and it seemed to be working for a while right through 80s.Today,it has become a damned big lie!
Have you people received SMS to encourage people to take/recite the pledge?
Wake those people up.
Are we as what we pledge?

Not completely, that is why I said time to edit the pledge
We,the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion,to build a democratic society, based on justice and equality,so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation.
The pledge is to have Singaporeans bound together in concert through thick and thin.
Unfortunately, it is clear that the PAP Government do not put as much weight into the words that suggest "democratic society", nor "justice" and least of all "equality".
"Democratic society" is seen to be too much of a burden for the PAP - especially for LKY - as it requires too much time required to be discussing policies and to obtain concensus for the most optimal path forward.
LKY's reported views of India as a "lumbering and bickering democratic elephant" is well known as published even in Thursday's ST editorial on GCT's success in his views for Singapore's involvement with India.
"Justice" is a non-existent word in the PAP's lexicon - especially towards those who will dare to pose any political challenge and inconvenience LKY and his Elite Executive Group of Ministers.
"Equality" is merely a convenient word for the sake of keeping an image propagated by the PAP in its even-handed treatment of the multi-ethnic Singaporean citizens.
With the PAP emphasis on "Meritocracy" - can there be "equality" ?
The pledge was first written in August 1966 by Singapore's first Foreign Minister - S. Rajaratnam - and a PAP co-founder - and the content of the Pledge was designed to spite Malaysia on the first anniversary of Singapore dissolution from Malaysia.
Has it any relevance today in view of the events that have transpired over the last 52 years - where countless Singaporeans have been arrested at the whim and fancy of the PAP Leadership ?
My life is farked enough then to spend time on such pretentious crap.
