SINGAPORE, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Singapore has set aside 2 million Singapore dollars (about 1.4 million U.S. dollars) to fund the cleaning industry, local media reported on Wednesday.
According to local radio 938live, the Workforce Development Agency has set aside the fund for the Best Sourcing Initiative (BSI) Early Adopters Scheme for the cleaning industry. This is a new initiative that awards cleaning contracts based on performance and quality, instead of solely on price.
The fund will be used to defray cost incurred in the adoption of BSI practices as organizations pay more for better quality service.
For a start, the program will target organizations in the cleaning, building maintenance, security and landscaping sectors.
At the same time, to protect workers from injuries, a new workplace safety and health guidelines was also released on Wednesday to provide cleaning contractors and companies with technical information and tips on workplace safety and health practices for cleaning activities.
This includes identifying work hazards and preventive measures that can be used by employers and workers.
Singapore's labor movement and its partners said the two initiatives would help to improve the jobs and lives of cleaners.

i don't understand why security guards only earn $1500.00 max then cleaner $800 - $1200
why the money salary cannot become $2000 - 2200
why the ft earn so much money and don't need to serve ns and ict is it because they earn more money tax more money
then gst come out is it to tax the security guards and cleaners money
hdb flats everything so expensive salary lesser and lesser how to get more money to survive

All that is mention seem like setting higher standard for the cleaning industry. it will just result in higher cost. eventually, town council will increase our conservation fees, tenants of shop will pay more, and spiralling cost to add to our already financial stressful life.

i think this is more a reaction from the drop in ranking of changi airport than gen. elections. those elites had concluded that the drop was due to the not so up to standard toilets.

Firstly, u dun hv to stand, just sit down and talk probably, cos i dun really understand u. -
I think its a good start by them, but its also something long overdue. Outside of our growth engine industries, many of the supporting industires play a very crucial role & cannot be neglected.
