When a city reaches it's peak, that's when it'll start to tear apart. History has taught us that lesson very well.. So do you think we're at our peak already?

No, if we look at other 1st world countries in Asia alone, we are still far from some of these countries. Our older generation who are from the third world to the first world is still very much old minded, few accept changes, whereas most still to old way of doing things, therefore it will take another generation before we can actually see the peak.
ya, put blame on people.
the peak has passed. we're in a decline. singapore's peak was in the golden era of the 1990s where everything seemed right. Low unemployment rates, low inflation, cheap/quality/spacious housing, pace of life that was just nice, not overpopulated, 40 cents feeder bus cash fare. optimism was everywhere. don't believe me? go ask ard those people older than 30 who went through the 1980s and 2000s. they wil all agree that the 1990s was the best of decades singapore has experienced, up till 1997 where the AFC changed everything.
Agree, Sg is declining.
Agree.

x 1
so to say our present pm cannot create "magic"
Freedom is a scary thing actually....
Our country was build not on freedom but sacrifices i think....
people are stupid...with the rise in the numbers of problematic stupid teens, freedom is the last thing we need...
imagine workers going on strikes etc...i dun think Singapore will make it if it is based on freedom with such a small society...
Its just wot i think...

How old are you?
What is decline, and what is rise?
Life had always been a roller coaster ride, filled with ups and downs, downs and ups. What makes Singaporeans different is their resilience to ride downturns and 'chiong' on the upturns to rise even further ever before.
Happened to our forefathers, our fathers and now upon the courage of the new generation. Cowards die many times, but brave ones die only once - when their time is up. We aint dead yet for sure, still breathing to 'piah' ahead and let the whiners rest and bemoan their fate while we show them the way forward.
Good luck!

What is freedom to you? Singapore must be freed from the colonial rule of the brits, freed from being part of a system that favour one particular race. What is so scary about that?
a few problematic stupid teens can possibly make any change, let them be free. in the unlikely event that they do make changes, it is up to us to see why, and we are supposed to be more matured and smart to decide how to handle the changes.
Workers going on strikes is something people of this generation doesnt know. Many are already on strike by not working. But there is no problem, average singaporean can go home to their parents in HDB and a meal means only an extra pair of chopstick. What is going on strike?

But what exactly is his goals? To be the richest country in the world? I believe its time to end this race and start concentrating on its citizen for a change. Singapore should open up to more freedom by now. We should be enjoying free speech by now. We should be living a democratic life by now. But reality is, we're still living under oppression even though we've achieved so many things. What's the point? Why trade freedom for wealth? I think its time for a change. Not only because its about time, its also because we deserve it.
"Singapore is what it is now because LKY dictatorship. We live a luxury life, we have solid economy and social framework thanks to him." very rare, but bold(in this forum) for you to attribute the "luxury life, ...solide economy and social framework" to somebody you call a dictator, and that you have "acheived so many things".
It is also very noble of you to think about trading wealth for freedom. so what are you prepared to give up?
in life there are ups and downs, and there are many peaks. sometimes we go down to consolidate for a higher peak, sometimes we have to go down as the world go down, but we will be up again to the next peak, .....
why can't we have solid economy, good social framework, luxury life, AND freedom...whatever that means to you?

For a country to be in roller-coaster ride, it is definitely a scary experience for the middle class and poor singaporeans. It also says a lot about the government that it doesn't know what it is doing and where it is going.
This country is made up of you and me. It's ups and downs are experienced by us all. What matters is not the 'ups or downs'. What truly matters are the attitudes we make to adjust to them and turn them upside down to our profit and advantageous. In turn, it will be reflected into the national economy.
The govt is not the country. Credit can be given to the administrators, but if not for the people, they will have no one to lead anyway.
The country is you and me, as it had been our forefathers, and fathers time that made Singapore what it is. How we will ride out this crisis is what you and I are prepared do, act and sacrifice...

I don't mean to flame you or anything, but your point of view is really superficial and shallow. It seems right out of the Social Studies Textbook. While I do agree that too much freedom is bad, you seemingly are against the idea of freedom at all.
How did Singapore get to where it is today? How did Singapore gain independence even? Now, if our forefathers had the same mindset as your POV, they would be going "Hmm why do we need freedom? Why do we need independence? Isn't life under the British good enough? Why strike? Why fight?".
Ultimately, a population of less than half of what we have now had the right mindset. A mindset to choose freedom and support those who led the fight for it. They had the freedom to choose of who should lead them, and they made a relatively right choice. How can you even say that freedom or choices is disadvantageous. It was the factor that led us to where we are today. While we have the right, we better exercise it properly and don't take it for granted that gahmen will lead us well into the next hundred years. Think thoroughly before acting.

Has the fallen angel decide to contradict her Father's theory that Singapore is already a First World Country ?
Does the fallen angel know how many Singaporeans are still living in Third World conditions, earning Third World wages, and burdened with First World Costs ?
Even as Singapore is claimed to be a First World Country by the self-proclaimed Elite Political Talent, who will claim absurd million dollar wages that exceed the amounts paid by First World Governments - the same Elite Political Talents in Singapore will insist that Singaporeans must accept short term working contracts that are to be renewable every 3 to 5 years.
With the continued troubles that the Singapore economy has been facing since 2005 till now - in mid-2009 - it will not be a surprise if that 40% size of troubled Singapore households would have ballooned.
Only a fallen angel will continue to have wishful thinking that things will work for the better in Singapore without any serious change to the ways that politics are conducted in Singapore.
The better way for the fallen angel to redeem itself is to understand - “Why a Democratic Economy would be more efficient economy” - if there is sincerity to see Singapore have a better future.
We are already hitting peaks on the production of oil and soon be hitting peaks on the other fossil fuels as well. (Note: There is a difference between peaks and running out, they're both different concepts)
Since Singapore primarily depends on the flow of such products around the world, i'm not really surprised we're hitting a peak as well.
Some may think that economic growth is derived solely from creativity, but if the physical materials (Or capital) are not there to support the idea, it would still remain only as an idea.
Peak of nespotism or despotism?
