With < $1m, you can buy a landed property in the UK, US, Australia or any part of the world. With < $1m, you can buy an apartment in an Australian CBD area. With $1.5m, you can buy a Four Seasons Apartment in the prime district in Toronto, Canada.
If you want to compare, you should look across several countries.
compare SG with western countries is like compare apple with orange.
Dunt take it so seriously. We just share some info here. Not fighting.Ok?
why hong kong more expensive?
i know why
hongkong got disney land. singapore got what? IR?

Coming back to HK, if you want to compare, I have a cousin who is a doctor in HK, general practitioner, he earns S$50,000 per month, more than 5x the amt of a doctor in SG. You can also get an apartment in a good area in HK for about $1.5m, albeit its size is smaller than the regular Singapore apartment.
But most importantly, if you are stupid, you will buy an apartment near the sewage for $1m. Smart people know that buying property takes time and you must invest time to look around for the best buy.
That happens as well for Singapore.
St. Regis is asking $5059 psf... how can it be untrue... friend, are you even in the property market?
The Sail at one point was selling at 3K psf.
Think now drop to about 1.5K.

end of the day, i personally... meaning my personal point of view, singapore isn't very expensive to live in compared to many other countries.
yes, there are pros and cons about Singapore. our COE is ridiculous, yet our income tax is mild... our stamp duty is expensive but our GST is low (7% compared to the west is nothing), our cost of housing is expensive compared to Australia and USA but our security is high. how many dare to venture alone in the street of USA in the middle of the night?

go to www.propertyguru.com.sg and search for Parc Centennial... asking $5000 per square foot currently
I always wonder if people sometimes sit in their homes and look at 1 square feet of area on their floor and wonder to themselves:
"Did I just pay $xxx for this 1 square feet of area?"
Wonder if it is possible to make property bigger.....like building underground.

Build higher lor.
That's what HDB is doing.

St Regis is no longer asking for 5059.
Whoever quoted you that figure is dreaming.

Why cannot compare?
Then you compare SG and HK is also apple with orange
SG is a country. HK is a city.
This apple and orange business is also subjective, it's not objective.

Again, you are wrong.
our GST may looked low, but in other countries, they do not tax necessities. WE DO.
You can walk in the streets of Washington DC at night safely, so long as you don't venture to the outskirts.
You can walk in Melbourne and Sydney in the middle of night safely as well.
And, Singapore's safety is sometimes overhyped in my opinion

of course there are some countries that don't even tax at all... they don't even bother so what is there to say? there is no perfect country at all... you can only make do with what you have. since you are stuck here, make the best out of it.
if you are not happy, join the political scene and make changes to our way of lives. if you are sincere and good, i will definitely vote for you.

Dear novelltie
you are really a jackass. Pls go to this
http://www.propertyguru.com.sg/search/trillium/7
It's obviously a typo for 15,582 psf. The regular price is about 1.5k psf. You are really nuts to believe in that price.
For St Regis, you can see this as an example
http://www.propertyguru.com.sg/listing/421624/St-Regis-Residences
As I mentioned, the regular price ain't that high. 99% of our residences are within the amount I am talking about. As I said, you need to have brains to buy residences. Paying $1m to live by a sewage is downright stupid.
By the way, the above shows you have 0 knowledge in market research. Apartments at the Trillium area cost about 1.5k psf. If you had market sense, you wouldn't make this thoroughly stupid (and enjoyable for me) mistake of quoting a stupid price hahaha

not interested in politics. Coz its frustrating to serve people like you who is too myopic and have not seen the world and believes Singapore is everything. Citizens like you tend to live in your comfort zone and will never contribute anything significant to Singapore. So what if I criticize? At least I have given my ideas to my PAP friends to let them think about it. Criticism means bad? You are just one of those who cannot take criticism and improve *shrugs*
On the other hand, I have worked in many cities before, and have done an ample comparison amongst the cities. I may not have 100% objective view, but I have seen enough in my global position
Sure, Singapore ain't that bad. But it's not that good as well. There are many cities that offer other aspects of life that beats Singapore hands down.
We are not on the top 10 most livable cities for nothing :)
And that's what I am taking issue with the Threadstarter
He's offering an overly skewed view of HK residences by quoting $1m living by sewage.
That's not true. Only a jackass will spend $1m living by a sewage, and end up on the newspapers :)
People who do not perform sufficient research and quote anything JUST to make their point, aren't worthy of respect *shrugs* That's the same for the guy who quoted the Trillium at $15k psf. Too desperate to prove his point that he never did his study properly. And hence, the thoroughly stupid mistake.
this topic again???? hmm.. can someone dig out my previous post on this??? lazy to repeat again.. and to the same TS somemore i b4........
Why public housing in singapore so expensive?
Why?

It's because the government is not a public organisation, it's a profit maximizing entity.

true, i accept my foolishness on the wrongly quoted pricing. yes, i'm a novice with the property prices in Singapore and yes, you are right.

but sorry friend, i do contribute significantly to Singapore... this i may have to contest you with; you do not know what i've did and am doing for the people of Singapore. i have no interest to elaborate or disclose either. i accept that Singapore isn't the best of countries to live in. i accept that we are not the best however, i am doing my part in trying to get things change in my own little way because i've accepted criticism and i want to make a difference.
