Pl note in HK,people usually talk about Gross Area 900 sf,including public shared area!!
In SG,pple talke net area,incl balcony ,air cond ledge etc.Public area excluded.
U can say this is like a HDB 2 room flat size.
HK salary may be higher,but house price is sky high too
HK fresh graduate earns abt HK 8500 a month,or S$1900pm.
In SG,u can get a HDB 4 room flat of size 90 m2 at abt S$ 250,000
from HDB.(total 3 bed rooms.Master room with attached shower/toilet).
Many forumers just say HK salary is higher.Yes.I agree to some jobs.

In SG,if u can stay in HDB and pay S$250,000 for a HDB 4 room type flat (90 m2),
u can stay there even u has 3 kids and a maid.
In HK,how long can u stay in a 55 meter sq flat
(the space u can put furniture) of abt S$ 950,000
with your spouse,one kid and one maid?Not to mention 2 kids lah...This is
called a "900 sq ft " flat in HK!!

it is common knowledge that Hong Kong property prices are really crazy... a unit at the Peak in Hong Kong will set you back S$100 million... that is true, undisputed fact. i've just went to Hong Kong in June and yes, it's nuts but other items are priced reasonable like groceries and necessities. that i have no complain... the food there is also very very affordable. i bought 1 roast duck for S$12 and each meal will cost me about HK$20 at those coffee shop that includes tea and sometimes dessert.

Not true about your 5000 psf. The most expensive property so far I see on the market is at most $3000+psf.
Coming back to HK, if you want to compare, I have a cousin who is a doctor in HK, general practitioner, he earns S$50,000 per month, more than 5x the amt of a doctor in SG. You can also get an apartment in a good area in HK for about $1.5m, albeit its size is smaller than the regular Singapore apartment.
But most importantly, if you are stupid, you will buy an apartment near the sewage for $1m. Smart people know that buying property takes time and you must invest time to look around for the best buy.
That happens as well for Singapore.
