Singapore cannot do with them and the country will fall into chaos the moment PAP is overthrowed.
That is demoralising talk.
I disapprove of it.
I have confidence in our civil servants and state agencies and ministries.
Without PAP regime, life will go on as smoothly if not more smoothly than before.

When you take a ride on the MRT, you faced hordes of indian, china, asian workers, espacially on weekends, similarly at rest and recreation facillities on our island. It is jam packed with hordes and makes you think Singapore are populated with foreigners.
But that is only a PERCEPTION and not based on facts. The truth is that these workers are only here working on our massive infrastructure projects known as IR, which is in the critical final phases whereby a large labour force is required, jobs of which Singaporean shun or feel that they would not pay enough.
Another 2-3 years and these massive large labourforce will be gone, when the IR projects are completed. But it will be replaced by another pool of foriegners - well heeled tourists.
You will ALWAYS be facing foriegners in Singapore. It contributes substantially to our economy and will be more so when the IR is completed. This is a reality you will face, and for what?.
The reason is because we need to grow. In an equal society, every individual has the right to grow up and take his/her place in the halls of opportunities, in the work place and in social life. In order to partake in this citizenship birthright, leaders will have to ensure there must be sustainable economic growth for opportunities to be present for all, not only today, but for our tomorrows as well.
Thus the reason to expand, not only in Singapore, but to the world as well. While we cannot use might to seize control of other nations, we can garner wealth for the furtherance of our society by economic might as Japan and Germany did in the 70s.
For that to happen, we will need a large amount of funds for education, to give our next generation of employees and leaders a better education and eradicate the peasant mentality we were all born with, as evident in our local bosses who circumvent labour laws and hired excessive foreigners to secure more profit instead of giving our locals a chance and share profits more equitably - something called social responsibility which is lacking by bosses, espacially in these difficult times.
Such revenue will come partially from tourism, which accounts for the sacrifices made by all citizens today for our future.
BUT does that mean, in mingling with foriegners, we loose our identity as Singaporeans?
NO. Singapore is only a name, a piece of rock. Your home is where your heart is - made up of your parents and previous generations where they lived, and collectively made this piece of rock great. This is place where you grew up, along with your peers and friends.
Some will fly away from their nests, but many more will remain, and those who remain, are yours and my fellow citizens where we grew up with and contributed to our society collectively, for our future generations. This is our only home.
Politicians will change, political scenaries may change, but what NEVER will change is the collective memories of us all growing up on this island in peace, studying, working and improving our rule of law and equal society, with the right of say but based on majority vote on the direction to move forward into the future, something NO foriegners will ever get to do here, amidst the turbulence and turmoil of other nations.
( I hope my language and writing used is simple enuff for all to comprehend.)

Your attempts to woo the civil service and perm secs of ministries is noted. A good try but perhaps futile, along with the rather unkind contemptous disregard of them and others who do not share your political affiliations as dogs or whatever.
In my view, you and your kind do them dishonour with such labels, for they are the ones who sacrificed long hours and even social lives to ensure our nation tick with reputable efficiency, while not perfect, for no one ever is, but still envied by the world
Civil servants and perm secs are citizens too. So too are our MPs and cabinet ministers. They too want the best for the country, are intelligent and rational as every other citizens ( sparing your kind, I suppose ).
Our founding fathers are not to be blamed for what they had to do in our post independence past, for the problems they had to face was far far worse than today - slums, poverty, low or no education by the majority of citizens, robbed and discriminated by the thieving colonial Brits, etc. Fate can only be altered through sacrifices, as those made by our forefathers for our todays.
But we have now a third generation leader with a 3rd generation educated population who will be moved by rationality rather than emotions or presumed slights, and will choose wisely, be it for the ruling party or the opposition, but they must be the ones who can lead the nation as our previous had done, elevating our society and ensuring no one gets left behind in our society.
The next generation of leaders must evolved and be enlightened to improve upon the neccessary foundations built by our founding fathers, and that enlightenment will have to begin now if it had not already be done, by leading through example, this generation of adults that is made up of you and me.
Release your hate, present your evidence on any wrong doing by the current political ruling party if any, or else let's work together for the betterment of our society, doing what is necessary, for the sake of the next generation.

I know you are taking sides with the government probably because you hope for promotion at work in future. Or probably you are a government service professional now. However, I hope you will duly put yourselves in the shoes of the local commoners who are the majority in society. People, like me, vent their frustrations out of anger of being unfairly treated when the foreign talents start to rob us of jobs and housing. You don't know what it is like in life until you become an underdog to others.

Why does one who speaks rationally or presumably as best as rationally possible needs to be a government official or hoping to secure a promotion?
I am a nobody, but had been a low daily paid worker before, as a sweaty smelly mover in a home relocation company in Singapore before, something singaporeans shun. I'm hardly the kind that would be any where near the intelligence of the civil service crowd, as you would have notice by the way I write.
But still, I'm a citizen merely excersing my freedom of speech, fully responsible for what I say or do and blame no one else. I know what you, with a foreign supevisor faced and every other retrenched citizen face, and there are solutions avaliable if you are willing to change or seek better opportunities.
However, I am least important. More important is you and what you have to do for our society, which we citizens are responsible for, and the direction we have to take, in a peaceful and civil manner that will ensure the safety and betterment of all in our country.
Competition is good in society. But too much of it translates into nasty politics that deprives humanity.
You know if there is too much division between the rich and poor Singapore society, whereby the PAP government is believed by most people to represent the rich, it will end up like India.
India, for milleniums and centuries since the dawn of civilisation, has been using the caste system to divide the outcaste and other classes of society. This continues until only to be broken by Gandhi during its independence. But even now, I heard, remnants of this tradition still surfaces. For example, in Mumbai, the rich have been notoriously known for their murders of the poors from time to time. I ever heard a rich gangster can barge into a house of poor and shoot down the whole family, without even letting off the innocent kids.
This also happened during pre - Mao China during the reigns of the warlords of the 10s to the 30s.
So, my point is, this is a constant reminder for the government to really understand the plight of what most Singaporeans are going through now in the midst of this recession.

When I see plenty of old citizen struggle with life, picking up cardboard and rubbish for minimal survival. I know something is wrong with the system.
Plenty of local University Student need to get massive loan to finance their study while foreign China student who score only second lower can get free U study and monthly of $800 pocket money.
This result a very bad vicious cycle as many local U guy who already started late becos of NS need to pay off their massive loan for U study before they can think of settling down.
When talk abt fairness, PAP are far from it.
And I forget to say, those rich Indians will go away scot-free after the killings.

I can provide another long essay, but essentially, where does money for social spending comes from? Have you ask yourself this?
Education, handouts, etc, should be given freely, but at the end of the day, who pays? Can we, working adults foot this bill without bankrupting our own families?
The only solution is to expand, gain more economic might and with more revenue, we will be able to solve it, something you and I are responsible for and should aspire for, if we truly care about our society and its future.
It is a problem our society must solve and agree to solutions provided by the best and brightest from our civil service, collectively. which I doubt it will be agreed upon.
7% GST and some are braying bloody murder and at the same time complaining about our elected representatives..

From the first day I was born in Singapore, I never know there is any freebies in Singapore..
THe GST hand out is not even enough to pay for the extra 2% i'm being overcharge everytime I buy something.
Do u pay when u visit hospital? Do u pay for yr school fee? Do u pay for yr transport fee? Do u pay for yr tax? Do u pay for yr utilities bill?
I pay for my everything. What has the gov do for its people? Not everybody has the same fate. Have u ever seen a very sick person, how they live? Do u expect him to work for its own medical fees when our medical system is such expensive?

Don't u realise u are already paying for it?
Where is millions of dollars come from for funding freebies for China student?
Yr overly charge HDB flats
Yr overly charge transport system from cars, motorbike, bus to MRT.. (Every year they are announcing sound financial system earning millions )
Even yr utilities bill is a way of providing profits for government revenue.
And the most famous 20% CPF for government.
What has governemnt provide us? Did they use the huge pool of money generate from citizens for a decent portion for social protection?
Some people live in their own deluded world.
Really.

Well said.
You forget to mention also that all our overly charged items are being used to pay the high salary of the corrupted PAP leaders.

Let's leave aside the China students issue, probably on scholarship bonds and even for strategic national interest reasons.
1. CPF is not a tax. It has to be refunded in full with interest.
2. Do you want current HDB flat dwellers to devalue their properties and bankrupt their properties to the bank? Does the additional costs to HDB (if any) goes into any public official? Dont the first timers get discounts on purchase of flat? Where does such monies come from?
3. Who paid for the utilities infrastructure and land, as well as who pays for the daily maintenance costs, the strategic stockpile reserves, etc?
Social spending is not just giving the old aunty $300+ a month. You will have to pay for every old uncle and aunty who qualifies. Current social spending is to the tune of billions per year.
By all means, lets increase social spending. $800 a month for old uncles and aunties till they pass on, remembering also we are facing an aging population. Free Uni fees. Free transportation and education for children. Free healthcare for all citizens.
Who pays for increased social spending? Let's ask for 40%GST. I don't mind, for i live simply. Can you, if you truly care about the poor?
Or is just another whimsical fantasy and delusion you have here and share with another, perhaps an excuse to vent your frustration unfairly against public officials which you realistically know from the bottom of your heart?
Really as well.

U must be joking thinking cpf is yr money?
I can gurantee without resorting to 40% GST. Sg gov can sustain $800 dollar for needy old, uncles and aunties for many decades. We don't ask for freebies. We ask for acceptable health benefit anf education fees for all lvl. Presently , all these services are making a huge mount of money. Sg gov over the years has accumulate such huge money or reserve that put singapore on world map when comes to reserve for such tiny country.
Just take a look at NKF saga. Before things blow up, they keep asking for money and keep telling u every year they need large number of money to sustain their charity work. Now it is discover its hoax. Their reserve is enough to let them maintain their charity work for decades without asking public for many decades..
Gov way of working is no diff from NKF.
Ironic, isn't it? U have been reading too much strait times news that needing to provide social benefit needing , we need to raise GST or taxes to a high lvl.
U are pathetic, do u know that? U dare to even claim u are just a neighbourhood singaporean.. lol..

Wow!!! I sincerly applaud you.
REALLY.
Soon everyone of us here will not see any old uncle or aunty needing to collect cans, paid $800/mth, acceptable health benefit anf education fees for all lvl, without breaking our kitty and increase in any taxes or cuts in funding any other national programmes.
WOW!!! BRAVO!!! MAGNIFIQUE!!! SUPERB!!!!
AND COMES WITH YOUR PERSONAL GUARANTEE AS WELL!!!!
I will remember your post as long as I live. As it is a guarantee, will you be submitting your action plan, charts and figures to the Finance Ministry tomorrow? I will be kind, give you a week, enuff?
Or are you gonna con us with lame excuses, as many deluded folks usually do?
(correct me if i'm wrong, it was just a hearsay)
there is this uncle, aged about 70+ a patient at a nearby polyclinic who due to some carelessness, tore the skin above his thumb. he goes to the polyclinic for "dressing" of his wounds every 3 days at no charges. fully paid by the government as he's on the community care scheme which enables him to visit doctors at government medical centres for free until he sees the Maker. he was accompanied by a "volunteer" (not really a volunteer cos' they are paid) to the clinic for every visit which he also do not pay for. i was told that he was given food and groceries every week. amounts that could last them for a week, just nice.
my wife like him alot for he reminds her of her demised grandfather so she did asked if he needed money. he said no... he has no need for lots of money, just companionship. he lived in those small HDB which he rent from a friend a about 200 - 300 a month... he told my mrs that he receive some allowance about the RC every month and he is pretty happy with the help he received... he is just lonely at times but what he received tides him over substantially...
so indirectly, did we Singaporeans pay for his "living" cost now?
what i meant is if all the posts i read here says the government abandons the old and weak, why do i see that this uncle is taken care of by the community? for what i know, he came from china when he was a little boy, worked the rest of his life as a sailor but didn't start a family... is alone now but the government still feeds him, pay for his medicals and give him allowances and food every month...
are they really that heartless?

But u do see a lot of old folks, some even with their backs bent, pushing a cart full of used cardboxes around at the Boon Keng area everyday...
because they were not told where to get help from? let's be honest; there are a lot of government department that we do not know about to get help from.
for 1; do you know if you are retrenched and couldn't find a replacement job immediately, you can get a allowance of (if i'm not wrong) $500 for 3 months before they review your case again? i know a guy that has been on this scheme for 1 year before he found a job. also when you approach them for the $500, you are given job placement opportunities based on your qualification and experience and of course your interested job scopes.
it's a matter of us, who knows the "round about" of the system to stretch our hands out and reach out for those who do not know and are suffering.
no I don't know that
and if it is true, I'm wondering why isn't it better made known to people, especially in times of recession and many retrenchments? I do know people who are retrenched who aren't even aware such a scheme exists.
If what you said is true, I really wonder why RC residents or MPs walking around the estate seeing such things do not even automatically go to extend this help to these poor old folks?
lastly, if there are many govt departments that we do not know about which we can get help from, then what are these deparments even around in the first place when not many pple know about it? To help only a selected few?

have you not seen posters hanging around recently?
"if you have financial difficulties or you know someone who needs help, please call 6xxx xxxx"
the MPs who go around estates always ask, "do you need any help" when they go door to door... this i can testify cos' Mr. Teo came knocking and asked me the same question.
why the departments are not openly advertised? friend, they are... if you need help with a quarrel with a neighbour, when a school is making too much noise in the morning or a group of teenagers always hanging around in the playground in the wee hours of morning and making a din, where do you go? Meet The MP Session...
over there; all doors available are open to you.
