SDA is frightened by the population who follows the judeo-islamic-christian thingy that it doesn't want to embrace science and allow science to help the people at large.
People of religion shouldn't fear science.
They need not contradict each other.
The very idea that there is some kind of conflict between science and religion is completely mistaken.
Science is a method for investigating experience, and religion is something quite different.
Religion is the fundamental, necessary internalisation of our system of more permanent values...
...It became fashionable in Western Civilization, particularly in the last hundred years, to be scornful of religion. But it is a fact that human beings have religious needs. They have a need for a feeling of certitude in their minds about things they cannot control and they do not fully understand, and with humility, they will admit they do not understand them. When you destroy people's religious expression, they will establish secularised religions like Marxism...

Try reading the different party manifestoes and I got the above feelings. By the way, are you so sensitive about the judeo-islamic-christian religion thingy that you cannot accept that they came from the same religious root?

The Constitution of Singapore is based on British model, the Penal Code has its structure along the same British model.
Is morality the sole preserve of the Christian faith alone ?
Singapore has self-governance since 1957, and independence since 1965 - and through the years the Penal Code has been changed beyond recognition - do you think there are any Christian influence in the Penal Code that has been continuously amended beyond recognition over the years ?
Is it Christian to impose 24 lashes on any person for whatever crimes ?
How have I displayed any "sensitive reaction" towards your idea of "judeo-islamic-christian thingy" ?
So what if the three religions have the same origin ?
It still does not explain your sweeping statement that SDA is "morally guided by the judeo-islamic-christian values" - as if only SDA is the only Singapore political party that has become the focal point of these three main religions, and is guided by the values of these three great religions ?
What about the Chinese Confucianist and Taoist participants in SDA ?
What about the contributions of the Hindus to SDA and to Singapore at large ?
Your attempt at linking religious values into Singapore politics - will require alot more deeper thinking and clear elaboration, as you are walking into a minefield that is laced with controversies.
As mentioned, your view that SDA is afraid of science and technology - is simply baseless.
Chiam See Tong has been a political laggard since the days when he was leading the SDP and had disappointed his SDP supporters.
Chiam is contented to win a seat in Parliament and simply stay there, while playing a cosy relationship with the PAP.
Have you seen him walk arm-in-arm with the previous Law Minister Jayakumar after a public function at a hotel lobby ?

Simi lanjiao? Did I say removal of religion? I just suggested seperation of religion from common morality. Next is that politics be involved in common morality but not religion.
I just suggested seperation of religion from common morality.
Why?
Then what is the use of religion?

what the british left behind are the common laws, it is practiced in all commonweath countries, these laws are common in all countries, eg if you litter you get fine $500, therefore, to be a lawyer, one must at least study common laws in Britain to have some credibility in future. Other than that, each countries can have their own laws to suit each individual country base on each situation. However the system of laws been passed is still very much following the British style, that is bills thru parliament where elected MPs vote.
Two controversal laws that is still being argued by human rights group and the west, that is capital punishment and canning, malaysia also have these laws, and so far, it serve us well to deter the wrong doing. In the west, the ideology is no one can take a person life except God, their christian God.
Chiam is more or less a puppet of PAP when Singapore was condemned by the world to have no opposition, so LKY make a few seats for the opposition lor...PAP is so powerful that they can even control the opposition seats, who should seat and who should not, even now, they also said that they allow 9 opposition to come in, isn't that controlling. Why said 9, cannot be 50 seats or 34 or etc etc??? voting is free mah

Simi lanjiao? Marxism is secularised religions? Or a farking in air uthopian philosophy? Humans fear the uncontrollable but they must learn to live with it without the crutch of religion.

What the professor is talking about is that people still needs something to help assure them of the unknown, like death etc.
That is one of the roles played by religion in society.
If you destroy religion or ban religion, the people will turn to other forms and means to satisfy their need of assurance.
One example is marxism.
Humans fear the uncontrollable but they must learn to live with it without the crutch of religion
That is against human nature.

My flying dick that people will turn to marxism as an escape. Besides, I am stating religion has no relationship in governance and common morality. How stupid can ah chia be?
Okay, that is your view.

Isn't what we established as common morality first established by religion?
While i hate the concept of religion and wished we could be done with it as soon as possible, still it is currently still the most effective way of encouraging moral behaviour upon the average human being.
Science has yet found a good way of encouraging socially stable behavours among humans. While religion at least encourages *MOST* people to be nice to their fellow human beings without preconditions.
