SINGAPORE: The Singapore government has announced proposed changes to the country's electoral system to encourage a wider range of views in Parliament, including opposition and non-government views.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced these proposed changes in Parliament on Wednesday.
He said each Parliament will have at least nine opposition members and nine Nominated Members of Parliament (NMPs), so that there will be at least 18 Members of Parliament (MPs) who are not from the ruling party.
The number of Non-Constituency MPs (NCMPs), who did not win a seat during an election but have the next highest percentage of votes, will increase from six to nine.
A proposal will be made to the Parliamentary Elections Act to set a cap of two NCMPs to come from any Group Representation Constituency (GRC). Parliament will also automatically have Nominated MPs.
Mr Lee added that the Nominated MP scheme will be expanded to include Singaporeans from civil society like young activists or those in the environmental movement.
He also said that there will be fewer six-member GRCs and a range of smaller GRCs in the next election, while the number of Single Member Constituencies will be increased to 12 from the current nine.
Prime Minister Lee explained that he is making the changes now, not because he is about to call elections, but so that the matter can be discussed and changes made in ample time before the next election.

did PM forget to mention that the next parliament will have 168 members, double the current 84? haha.
After the disastrous past 2 year's of major blunders, is he now starting to get scared that people will really vote opposition for the sake of voting opposition in the next election?
Actually, is he not scared he will also need to spend more time "fixing" the opposition?

I think he have to fix himself this time. He's just kia si for the continuous blunders.
In case if ruling party becomes the opposition in the next election; they still have more than now. Win win situation for a losing streak. Kiasu.

I think he realises that this is the only way to ensure the incumbent party stays in power for the near future.
The recent major blunders and related public anger is starting to wake him up to the idea that the party might actually lose more seats in the next election. Call it political survival. He has no choice.

He might still be dreaming. He never looks awake.

explain why u mentioned major blunders, Charlize

You are not aware of the blunders that have happened in the past?
the sissy pm has so much say because the Election Dept is directly under his care. Where is credibility???? Like that PAP sure win every election. In fact, no need to vote lah.

Probably don't need to vote. The deposits will be astronomical next round. Sigh. Walk all over.

Why so much complicated rubbish?
Just abolish the fucking GRCs and free up the media.
Plenty of mother fucking diversity already.
Why so much charade?
Nothing but filth.

Voting is just for show, wayang wayang, drama drama only.
The political critic from Taiwan spoke about voting in Singapore. He said that even before election in Singapore the ruling party already won due to many walkover.
Voting in Singapore, I doubt is a fair game since Election Department is under the Prime Minister's office.
I actually saw a pic containing those boxes of ballots in the vehicle arriving at the venue rather late at night, the one who posted the pic said that there might be some kind of "unclean" business done to the ballots. I regret not saving the pic for reference.

Since the autocratic party has so much say, so much power, of course they will do things that they deem fit to suit their selfish needs and selfish interest.
Lee Hsien Loong, abolish the mother fucking GRC system now.
This type of fucking system sends in spineless people into parliament.
Why can't someone who wants to go into parliament fight for it by his or her own effort rather than be mollycuddled into parliament?
I hate this type of worthless mother fucking system.
Abolish it now.

Simple - though these ministers are highly educated, not many of them are capable so the GRC system suits the PAP. With the GRC system the newly appointed ministers are mollycuddled.
Sissy pm lee hsien loong is mollycuddled, too. He has SM and MM to guide him and 1, 2 or 3 special assistants in his office to assist him. If this is not mollycuddled I don't know what you will call this.

I call this brat.

Too many brats in PAP. Sigh! No wonder no progression. All we have been hearing is noise.
the GRC system suits the PAP.
It is a spineless system for spineless people.
It mollycuddles worthless people into parliament.
For example this Tan Chin Siong who free rider with Lee Kuan Yew's GRC due to walkover.
Because this person never made a speech to the people, never fought for entry into parliament by himself but relied on others, he talked nonsense in parliament and made a fool of himself.
This type of person how to survive in politics?
He can only do so through a spineless system such as the GRC system.
actually, nothing to be excited about. even if really got 9 opposition MPs, you imagine who they would be.
they restricted NCMPs from GRC to only 2. so won't have an elite team. here and there pick one by one, we may end up with tan lead shake kind of people lol. you think got use?
just saw them in the news

Tan Chin Siong, sam not the only one. The other mollycuddled MP is lui tuck yew. This fellow only visits the home of elites and leave out the HDB dwellers.
