That is no true because their kids need to go back to their own country to continue their higher education...Attending the same school system in Singapore as if they are still in their country helps their kids to remain in the same Educating System and not to disrupt their education....
its not like singapore education who change every few years to mess up your own kids study.

or perhaps, regardless of wherever one is, singaporeans tend to accept the fate that it is "OK" to accept such issues; the minds have been muddled permanently.
Why on Earth would you want to send your Kids to an international School in Singapore? It is not just because it is international School for foreign Kids it is Also a Totally different Educational System altogether.
Unless u are planning to move out from Singapore. Than you should be outside of Singapore. Not in SG studying some American system of education or japanese system?
I had help ran programmes for foreign kids in Singapore. This has nothing to do with Singaporean accepting the fate. This has everything to do with being a Host.
You expect oversea MNC to create jobs in Singapore only and forget about their life?

If that nearby new school is the ONLY school available for my kids.. ofcors I get upset lah. But if I have 10 other good schools to send my kids to, I wouldn't care if that one foreign schools says "aliens" only.
US also got school for foreign kids wat.
German international school and French International School.
Because they follow their own curriculum. Expat/foreign parents who come here to work.. wants to keep their children in the same curriculum back home.. so that it's easier for them to transition back into the system when they go back mah.
You're talking about children leh... ofcors parents worried their children don get use to the sudden change and do badly in school wat.
Children do well in familiar surroundings. You never study early childhood meh ? wah lau.
Next time you become a parent... and have to go work in Russia or Nigeria where the education system , language and culture are vastly different.. the first thing your wife will look for is a nearby Singapore Internationals School .
To the "discriminatory" part. It's just to make sure the Canadian children are given priority .. because expats in Singapore are transient.. the turnover rates are very high.. if they don't reserve the place for Canadian students.. then Singaporean students all start filling up the seats.. then it will lose it's purpose catering to the Canadian Expat students what.
You know ah.. those international schools in Singapore got a long waiting list ok ?.. if the Canadians expat have to compete with Singapore students to get in.. then wats the point of their existence ?
Ofcors the school can be more subtle .. don put that "only Canadian" may apply. They can simply sift out the locals and accept only Canadian passport holders during application process.
But usually during application.. parents are required to put a non-refundable deposit. So it is better to just let applicants know what the school priorities are wat. Save the hassles.
If you think that Canadian school curriculum is so sought after.. then someone can start a school for locals offering Canadian style education system... but then what's use ?
If I am not wrong... the international schools in Singapore are not cheap ok. About 20-25 K per year per child. Then only rich Singaporean students can afford to apply, that is also class discrimination wat.
Either way... it's usless to complain about it one lah.
Not say Singapore local schools don't have enough place for SG children. What for go squeeze with expat students ? So petty for wat ?

Ya mah, me also when japan, vancouver for exchange program mah, but missed the one night in beijing, cos kenna chicken pox. Aiya, what summer are they talking about, in Singapore here, everyday is summer. Peoples just dun appreciate the wonderful education system we have here, our govt are very pro in education, but somehow good stuff alway invite condemnation, envsion and jealousy. Let them talk what they want, afterall, everyone is entitled to their own different opinons, same as everyone have a different asshole size.

wee, that is an understatement, MOE dun change just becos for the sake of change, it change it system with times while factoring in what the future holds, it is good to have a change process than remaining status quo, we are producing scholars and more graduate.
Changing only help to improve as changing make the world evolve better.

This is like the stupidest post ever. Sorry to burst your little bubble, but the Singapore culture and education system is not the supreme way-of-life that everyone should follow, or else they are stupid.
Or maybe you don't know what expats are. Expats don't come to Singapore to find a new home and culture. They come here because they had an opportunity to get paid. Most expats living in Singapore move here because their company offered a pay raise, to pay for their kid's education, and to pay for their housing (and it's usually a nice house). Why would they say no?
But they're here for business. They're not interested in coming to Singapore because they want to see how awesome you are. Therefore, they live in an American (or wherever they came from) community, making friends with American people. Their kids go to American schools and make friends with American kids. When they graduate, they're going to go back to the States and attend college there.
It has absolutely NOTHING at all to do with the difficulty of education, and you're an ignorant asshole if you think that it does.
Hi,whoever started this topic,
please make some research before posting it
I am an expact living in singapore and also used to live in other countries.
I understand that the poster you post it seems to be abit racist. They should write something like for canadians and expacts only.
And also all the international schools around the world don't accept the local students not just only in singapore.
Reasons-
--We have different educational curreculum from singapore, and also we have to go back to our own country, thats why international schools are formed.we come here is just for money, to go straight.
--In international schools we don't sing singapore national anthem, In american school, we sing "The Star-spangled Banner" which is the usa anthem. So why should a singaporean living in singapore sing other country's national anthem. And also after studying in international school for long time, he or she will become forgetting the singapore culture and strange to the singaporean community even though he or she still live in his own country. So that can cause the young singaporean student think himself as american or canadian. which can make him un-patriot to singapore.that's why the government MOE and the school both try to ban singaporean to enter to inter schools. I have some rich singaporean friends in school. They are also like that, feels like they don't really like to make friends with singaporean out there. And I feels really sad for that..
--If singaporean want to enter interschools, they have to pay fines which is about 40% of the school fees. so i admit that there are still rich singaporean kids in there.
You can ask me more if you want to know !

I don't have to sing any American anthems at my American school. Also, I don't know if that 40% fine thing is true; I have a few Singaporean friends myself, and while some of them are really rich, most of them aren't that rich. (Well, that's relative to the people at my school, most of whom are pretty rich anyway, lol.)
But yeah, the part about different curriculums is true; if you're going to go to an American college, the best thing would be to go to an American school. There are some specific requirements, like taking at least one American history course in high school.

I, as a Singaporean, do not enjoy your tone. Perhaps you may had been provoked, of which I do not deny. But do know that you and the children of such schools exists ONLY because of universal sufferage, of which we,.Singaporeans, have no wish to see your kind denied of your culture and heritage. We could have enforce the rule, since money MOTIVATES your kind to work here. But we DID NOT. Appreciate this fact, and be thankful.
Secondly, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, remember you are, no matter how great you presume your country to be, or how great your education system is, (what is the yardstick anyway? Acknowledging our education curriculam is good as your senators often do would make our system better, but why quibble, kids are kids and innocent anyway, good or bad, we will ultimately learn one way or another.), AMBASSADORS of your country.
The way you put us and our citizens down is absolutely high handed and disgusting, and i am sure many of your fellow matured citizens would share such feelings. But i forgive you, for you are only an immatured kid.
Being ambassadors, diplomacy is much required to foster better understanding, espacially since you are only guests and motivated by, to put it bluntly, greed. We Singaporeans can be accomodating, but only if you, as a guest, does the initiation part first, to open your palms, face it forward signifying you have nothing to hide, with absolute openness to understand our culture as we seek to understand yours, so that we may live side by side, as we had done with the evidence of our multi-racial society.
Accept my post in a positive spirit, otherwise we will needlessly never see eye to eye and instead of fostering understanding, only unnecessary misunderstanding will prevail.
But it is your choice. The ball is in your court now.
Cheers.

I suggest that you read the post he was replying to. That was even more tasteless. No matter who you are, you also represent whatever background you come from. That applies to Man!x as a local - the host - but da-vid was specific in rubbishing him. You may have grievances against other expats for their haughty attitudes and their criticisms of Singapore, but don't hurl them at this member without good reason.
Man!x posted, and enough folks have retorted. It should be done and dusted there. You're dgging it up and taking sides unnecessarily by letting chest-beating nationalism get in the way of judgment.
"..but the Singapore culture and education system.. is not the supreme way-of-life that everyone should follow, or else they are stupid."
Singapore culture? What exactly would that be?
And why the heck would expats want to put their kids in the local education system, which is only good for producing industry ants?
"They're not interested in coming to Singapore because they want to see how awesome you are."
LOL, that was funny. But a lot of Singaporeans are gonna be angry with you for stating the truth. Many are thin-skinned. Say anything about this little red dot and they'll jump to its defense, while secretly wanting to get out of it.

The last two behaviours actually belong to two different groups...and then you have people who can see the sad flaws and yet want to make it a better place in terms that go beyond the basic means to survive and material capital.

Alamak , Summer school are for parents who don't want their children to idle at home during the "summer" school holidays. Thats why the curriculum are less structured.
Instead of semester break.. they call it summer break or winter break lah.
Older kids go for summer camps. It's just additional programs so the kids don't go crazy lah.
Some older kids who don't go for summer camps/schools.. may take up summer jobs to earn some pocket money mah.
Younger kids.. because of the limited options and activities.. most parents who choose not to take vacations during this period prefer to put them in summer school lor .....
Cultural differences.... as long as you understand....not such a big issue wat.
Anyone remember the "No Chinese Or Dogs Allowed" signboard in a Shanghai Park?
see regulation 1, because this is in China, it means, Chinese are not allowed.
Just as dogs (see regulation 4) are not allowed.
That was during the Imperial China period.
With a cursed despot as good as an emperor with his asslicking running dogs here, it is starting to happen here in Singapore too!!!
AND DO THE ANG MO KIDS there HAVE SEX WITH ONE ANOTHER IN CLASSROOM?

ah.. so far, you are the only one that showed much wisdom and insight in this thread. too bad that most forumers here are accustomed to social, racial, national and religious stratification.
how can i be a racist against an organisation IN SG that bars all my fellow citizens from SG? Wierd.
Imagine you've been forced by circumstances to move overseas (i.e. parents job or migrating).
You tried to enrol in a Singaporean school in that country.
Only to realise you can't get in because it's already been filled up by citizens of that country.
Like duh...an international school is meant for foreigners, not singaporeans in the first place what.
Macham like saying why Mendaki never help chinese students like that...
Why would Singaporeans want to go to private schools unless the education system is farked up because the massive amounts of public money grabbed by the cursed despot and his running dogs cronies are diverted into the gambling addicted activitives of the cursed father in law and daughter in law addicts.
