The status quo is no longer there. For decades the singaporeans from the GEn X to GEn Y have been instilled the values of Social harmony and cohesion into them by way of life. With the coming of foreigners, there is a chance that this status quo will be upset. One of the reasons , why people voted the govt in in the past because of the stable social environment (riots free, no racial discrimination or religious intolerance). But the foreign immigrants do not understand. They tend to keep to themselves and not mixing around with other groups.Such scenarios are already being seen in other countries like Australia and the United Kingdom. These immigrants came from countries where there are only one community and lack the diverse interpersonal skills to communicate with the other. One of the core principles of economy is that business and community has to go along and one cannot be independent of the other.Singapore may be losing its social identity in the name of corporate greed.
That's what I observe too.
It's ike 40 years of nation building all gone down the drain in the past few years.
I do not mind Malaysians but sri lankans, indians and china PRCs should be allowed in limited numbers.Look at Australia, it let in refugees , and now the australian locals do not want to mingle with these groups.
The first thing, that these foreign workers do when they arrive in singapore to work or study is first find one of their own kind and stick with them forever.
The enst thing i learnt in NS is to mix around with everyone, regardless of nationality. I guess NS has its benefits afterall.
it's ok...
u will get used to it...
or rather the govt will help u get used to it...

I am all for more foreigners coming to work and live in singapore. We definitely need new citizens be it from Malaysia, India, China or other countries to make up for the shortfall in numbers. (And it all started from the Stop at 2 policy... )
But the current situation is too extreme.
They are letting in anybody and everybody for the sake of earning more money (no elaboration needed here) and forcing the population to grow at an exponential pace without much considerations on the impact it will have on society.
Underpopulation is one thing - you can still make up the numbers by importing human labour. But what happens when there is over population? You want to start kicking people out of the country? (Ok, there has already been talk about sending senior citizens to live in JB.)

i cant imagine a batch of singaporean males living in dorms and waking up at 6am to cramp into a small lorry to work...
I think the next generation of people born here will have weaker sense of identity and attachment to this country due to the social upheavels of the flood island with foreigners policy.
I do not mind Malaysians
That is why I say if in the future, when it becomes clear that the Singapore project is a total and complete failure, Singaore and Malaysia should move towards merger.

GARY MORMINO: Exactly. And about one of three Floridians is a native, second lowest in the Union. Someone said the state license plate should be “Where Everyone Is from Somewhere Else.” This has created great problems for the state in connecting—making Floridians believe they have a sense of place here. And that’s one of the great challenges, I think, to modern Florida: a sense of shared sacrifice and a commitment to the future.

No need, merger back with malaysia can resolve most of the problems already.
So, in the end, PAP rule was a grand failure after all.

not so to them...
merger with matland , or no merger, either way we are stuck. Its just a question of choosing the lesser evil
Which one will u choose?
Merger with matland - Prepare to give up all your rights to Bumiputra
No merger - We will still have basic rights to way of life, work and education

This reminds me of Taiwan.
Merger or no merger, Singaporeans are soon becoming a minority.
SAd isn't it.

No. There will be Singaporeans. Lots of them in fact.
These new-Singaporeans are prepared to vote for their new Master in the next GE.
Get it?
Why is my post so importante even though it is just a short paragraph, it says so much things.
When communities dont communicate, its going to be hard working together , and certain communities will be at a disadvantage.
