Other things I do are stick to a vegetarian diet as much as I can (got sold on this in army when the vegetarian food at the cookhouse beats the normal chinese : p) and cut down on my driving about 90% from the period that I just got the license. probably only once a month now.
But I pretty much cut the line there. Not gonna form some green awareness group or whatever. But sometimes fantasize about joining greenpeace and doing dumb things like sneaking onboard whalers and shark hunters ships and sabotaging them in my wild dreams.
Ice Dive isn't whining anyway. No need to be hard on him
Much as i dislike her comments on local men she is correct.
A personal lifestyle change on consumption is far more practical than complaining on the internet. I can't resist having some meat everyday, though i try not to have it for every meal.
Pisses my mom off when i insisted on shutting off the main power every night though. She don't say much after the utility bills came in.

Yup... making changes at a micro level could be more important than changes at the macro level..for a start.

So therefore..
All people to work together ....
There are so many people working on different technological advancements. Even though they may not be a total solution , like someone said that recycling is not 100% , but its a improvment which will be fine tunned as we go on. No innovations becomes a perfect solution right from the start .
Eg of solutions that people are working on ( which is only tip of the iceberg ).
- Solar energy trapping system and projects. ( there are a few major projects overseas and many more coming up ).
- Wind turbine energy solution ( Vesta has built a large number of wind turbine to trap energy into the ground ).
- Govt going for energy efficiency buildings .
- Company reusing byproducts (waste products from other steel mills ) to produce building materials.
- Sugar mills using by products to power part of the production mills.
A problem which seem difficult at the start that others will think its not possible at all and that they need co-ordinated efforts to achieve. But to some , its just challenges that they have to overcome.
A good start is that people recognise that its a problem and govts in the some countries have taken it as one of their priorities.

If you really want to care, Let do something that achieveable, i will support you. By argueing here till the cow come home is not going to move a single atom.
Great that on a individual basis you are actively working on it . I guess spreading the ideas on how its done could be a start and constantly reminding others so that the momentum can continue.
I go for recycling and hope and encourage others to do it too.
1) I will put a bin for papers and ask my family members to throw their paper waste into it and I will take it to the recycling bins
2) When there is another earth day , we should all participate.
3) I switch off the main power supplies of the electrcial appliances ( computer , TV ) every night .

Come on, Earth day is a joke. Kudos to you bro, for doing what you can. On the macro scale, too little too late.

I believe you, they celebrate commercial and political green nowadays just like Mother Day or Father Day. Back in the old days who do such hyping. It's all about money. Sigh!
How about goinbg naked at home to use less aircon .. hahaha ....
I tried 2 foolish things before
1) I thought of coming up with a house hold recycle bin to separate waste and make it easy to carry to recycling centre. Even shopped around with friends for the materials , then I heard someone in australia did that also but it does not seem to be a big thing.
2) I thought of having a central circuit breaker so that it become a one stop place to shutdown power of useless things that we do not use when we go to sleep . Studied the thing but do not know how to implement .. haha ..
I heard a friend's friend got a solar powered battery pack at home which is used to power computer . But I do not know how it works and my friend does not want to intro me to the person. Cool ah ...

The problem with these alternatives is that they can only replace what our energy usage at best. And the energy invested for extracting energy would not be as easy as fossil fuels
We are not going to see the sort of explosion in growth like the past century, that's the result of the Golden Age of Oil.
We are not, i believe going to be able to retire by 50-60 the same way our parents and grandparents could do. And we're going to see alot more recessions and market crashes because the economic system is built on the belief that we could continue the same sort of growth we did the century before and it would take time and fine adjustments to fix it.
Hi forummers,
I feel that religion will be forever a sensitive topic.
Let me illustrate with a simple example:
Ah Hong G is a very serious believer of Religion C.
Ah Kang is a very serious believer of Religion I.
So, here we see 2 believers of 2 different religions.
Each am convinced his religion is the only real thing in this universe.
They could not understand why other religion believers could not accept his religion which to him, it is so clear that is the only truth. so good so wonderful.
Now, who is correct?
Now, is there no potential for Friction ? disagreement?
So, while both may have good intentions, their thinking is the same but in exactly the opposite way.
Humans.
