at first i thought 88110 means 1988, 1, 10, as in birthday is 10th of janaury.
than i guess that 88110 means 8, 8, 1, 10, as in birthday is 8th august, born at 1.10am.
no luck in guessing, going to play mahjong le, you have fun here....

No, we singaporeans are more than we actually realized, if only we would stop and ponder on what really matters, and what really matters is that we are still alive, more can be done by ourselves if we rise to the occasion to meet the challenges of today than to hanker down under battened hatches and scream in agony, agony which is not of real hurt or doom, but only lost desires of which we will regain and more, if only we courageously move forward, come what may, to bring food to the table for our loved ones, in peace.

What makes you think that we fear competition with foreigner? If it's in terms of working hours, intelligent, qualification etc... I seriously don't think they're as strong as us.
However, if it's interms of wages, we're at the losing end.
** We have family in sg that we need to feed, house loans to pay, etc etc.... How competitivie can our wages get? With everything going up, do you think we can lower our wages to that of FT? and don't forget our take home pay needs to -20% cpf.

Last time Singapore nothing but fishing village.
Actually Singapore was a trading post and a thriving city given its good geographic location and colonial rule. However, there was less welfare for the average people of Singapore, thus necessitating independent non-British government for the people. But we must not give the new government credit for British institutions and a level of development and self-government which was far superior to those granted by other colonies. We must give credit where it is due, and credit belongs to British institutions as well as the PAP government, and foreign advisers as well as foreign workers. Credit must be fair.
For example:
The leaders of Singapore were depressed when Singapore was ejected out of Malaysia, there is much debate whether or not it was Mr Lee's own view of transforming Singapore into an independent trading metropolis that can survive on its own, or whether or not he took that view because his Dutch advisers had a much more positive view of being seperate from Malaysia.
Why do we have the view of fishing village? Our chief export has never been fish haha. It's really interesting how history books here manipulate the imagery of how backward we were until we had a shining new government. Very interesting.,
