A brief scan of our Singapore cabinet members’ profile yielded an interesting statistic. 6 out of 21 (Mr Lee Hsien Loong, Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Mr Lim Hng Kiang, Mr George Yeo, Mr Lim Swee Say and Mr Teo Chee Hean) of the current cabinet were alumni of our military.
Can they make good leaders? Err... running this Nation like Mindef.
For me, a farmer will always remain farming! Let me add on... Balls to U Allan Ooi!

I really find it annoying when people like to refer themselves to farmers and peasants like they were some sort of lower class.
We live in a urban city. The raw materials for everything we use is being made by someone on minimum wages . Minimum, because we want our stuff cheap and to hell to those in the 3rd World country who wants more wages, we'd just buy our stuff from another supplier who is willing to depress the wages of their employees more.
Sounds familar?
We whin about our wages being depressed so we can be more competitive when we would just as happily do it to a 3rd World Country as long as we can't see it.
Farmers and peasants worked the whole day to provide us with what the human race needs. Our workload is nothing like them, we are abused nowhere close to them.
So don't insult their labour like it's some degenerate chore below us to do. You eat the fruits of their labour for every meal.
The story of how singapore rose is thru the blood of others.
so what... their universities studies (1st degree and Masters) were done in super good overseas universities, majoring in business / economics / political science...etc
the saf scholarships r just bonds only. and most of them r key staff appointment holders, dealing with formulating policies... more of office work

you mean the reason why singapore rose is red in color? not all roses are red in color but they are more scary, like Vietnam rose.
Can Lim Swee Say be a "Military Elite" - equal in brilliance to the 'star recruits' such as Lui Tuck Yew, Teo Chee Hean, George Yeo and Lee Hsien Loong ?
God help the SAF if he should go beyond a single bar.
Lim Hng Kiang was said to have no more than crabs on his shoulders and did not come near to being a star.
The present dependence in drawing recruits from the SAF leadership into politics is a screwed up view of LKY - in believing that military leadership has the experience of "managing under pressure" and equal to the task of managing the Singapore political environment in the real world.
LKY had said that US Space Agency placed their astronauts into years of rigorous training in various simulated conditions and have successfully managed their space programs under such "laboratory conditions".
By extrapolating from NASA success, LKY believed that the Singapore Government can take a leaf out of NASA's methods to find political talents from various scholars put through the paces in the "leadership laboratory environment" in the SAF.
Unfortunately - with the exception of Teo Chee Hean and George Yeo - those recruited from the SAF have shown dismal performance without the convictions, or visions, or forceful personalities of those from the "Civilian World" in the likes of Dr Goh Keng Swee, Lim Kim San, Hon Sui Sen, Richard Hu, Tony Tan, and the late Ong Teng Cheong.
The list of SAF Leadership being recruited into politics seems to be drawn only from those with ONE-Star rank, while those with Two- and Three Stars are fit only to be Presidents and Vice-Presidents of Government Linked and Owned Companies.
It must be too embarrassing for the PM to be a BG having to listen to a Minister with the rank of LG or MG.
Why bring Alan Ooi's sad affair into this Thread ?
Like that less chances of miltary coup to overthrow PAP regime, since cabinet all ex-SAF officers.
Scali SAF go and overthrow Lee Kuan Yew how?
He malu you know.
Coup for what, you want power he promote you to government lah.
Military elites ? What military elites. I don't consider them military men.
How many of them have gone to a war zone ? How many has experience in a real war ? How many has seen the horror of war ?
A cushy job IN the military , doesn't make them military elites. They are just elites holding a military job.

of course lah, all the male Ministers are real men too, they need to serve NS as good example mah...if not later you complain why Ministers dun need NS one and citizen needs, they cannot answer you. But now they are civilian liao, no more NS already, cannot carry a rifle and aim properly also, how to fight or overthrown anyone, so to speak.
Overthrown LKY for what??? it is LKY that gives them good Minister's jobs with good paids, why overthrown him, they are in fact trained to overthrown the opposition. LKY just said to them " Hello, remember hor, dun bite the hands that feed you"

No wonder the military is also running like profit organisation.
I was fine $100 for going oversea without registrating NS portal and was not allow an appeal.
KNN, i go oversea for work 50times a year, just one time i dont register NS portal i got fine!
we sell our youth to the military, after ORD, we continue to serve as NSmen for 10 or more cycle. This is how the military show their appreciation to us.
phui!
Military Junta?
Military Junta
Police nation
these things are usually found in 3rd word countries but they do survive in a diferent form in the 1st world
All in all, this world is round, what goes around comes around.
What a farked up world.
Previously we were asking can scholars run the military, and poke fun at our army.
Now we are complaining about military elites running runing the country.
As always the case, Group A, Group B, Group C, can never be satisfied at the same time. Group A satisfied, Group B complains, Group B satisfied, Group C complains, Group C satisfied, Group A complains, and the circle continues.
The best is to satisfy two groups of the three groups, which btw is about 66.6%.

The problem is that the 66.6% is taken only from Group A, while Group B and Group C are left out for consideration.
The playing field has been purposefully enlarged with accompanying new financial and political barriers cunningly created that prevent the other players from putting their representatives in every sub-divisions in each Group.
Claiming 66.6% victory in an Election that is conducted amongst about 30% of the population is a self-induced delusionary mandate from the people.

Yup, I didn't think that way.
My presumption is that all groups are of equal size.
