It is ok for them to win but they must stop their despotic behavior and make an effort to work with everyone instead of trying to do a Lee Kuan Yew and acquire his dishonorable character.

Sondhi had better faster clear his yellow stinky cheebye pads out before I land next Monday. Nabeh cheebye...
First, the democracy in Thailand is totally screwed up
Second, I understand your (sgdiehard) point about the tourists safety. That was exactly what I told the bf. Then again, I did not use the word "ransom". That is how you see it and of course, you can have your own views for all you like. According to a few of my thai friends who are obviously PAD supporters since they have told me that the PAD has tried to avoid as many innocents as possible - but we all know that surely, some bloodshed will happen in any ways.
Third, to Stevenson101, I never said that the rich feel that they do not have to contribute to help the poor. You inferred that. In fact, many PADs love the King because he is exceptionally kind to the poor and they they themselves do donate to the charities.
Fourth, what is democracy. I don't even think we have democracy in Singapore here. In fact, all countries cannot call themselves 100% democratic. But what is known is that Thaksin did use the taxpayers money to bribe the poor, then the poor decided to vote for Thaksin. He has the power to use the government's money the way he likes. And he used it to gather support for himself to remain in power. Is this democracy then.
But what is known is that Thaksin did use the taxpayers money to bribe the poor, then the poor decided to vote for Thaksin.
Sounds familiar doesn't it?

Hrm alright, thanks for clarifying.
But saying Thaksin used the money to bribe the poor is rather subjective isn't it?
Don't Europe and Australia tax the rich heavily and give it out as welfare subsidies? They call it redistribution of wealth there, how is it different in Thaksin's case?
Using taxpayers money to help the poor and to gather support for himself to remain in power...that's the whole point of having a democractic government isn't it?
Use taxpayers' money to help the people living in the rural areas is right. When these people spend the money aid to buy handphones and subscribe to Shincorp's services, the tax money enriched Thaksin.
I read that he has registered another party and the leader will probably be one of his cousins.....
So we will see round 4 very soon.....
Thai Rak Thai....reincarnation--> PPP...reincarnation-->Puea Thai....
Thaksin...reincarnation--> Samak...reincarnation-->Somchai...reincarnation--> ? (coming soon)
I hope the Thai nation will be able to break the cycle of reincarnation and reach nirvana.
I am quite concerned about Thailand. But anyway, I am not a Thai, I dont have a real knowledge of what is going on there, even by reading news sources.
I am surprised though that at forums, here and elsewhere, there are Thais who seem to support PAD. This makes me think maybe they are not evil after all. I trust more the real Thai people rather than frustrated tourists or the talkative journalists.
Also, the theoretical talks about democracy and classism, maybe it is a little bit of overanalysis. I am imagining myself if I am a so-called midlle class or upper middle class Bangkokian maybe I will support PAD too, and I believe those middle class and upper middle class Bangkokian actually are the ones who know the best about their country and the politics.

Hey PKYAP ANDREW!!!! I tot u always encourage ppl to invest in Thailand?? Now wat?? With this amount of social unrests, I am sure u lose quite a bit of money in investing Thailand.
So investment guru....I think u need to do more homework than to flab ur mouth here.
Or better, flab ur mouth in IMH
There definitely has to be a political solution to this whole tug of war. The problem is that the entity that is suppose to be the main power broker, has a stake in all of this, thereby ruling out any neutral intervention that will broker any sort of compromise between the two factions. I have very little knowledge about the area, but I gather that the conflict is drawn across geographical and class lines. A solution to this might be embarking upon a policy of decentralization and giving greater autonomy to the various regions, and empowering regional governors at the expense of the central government.

At least do your homework before you come out and make a fool of yourself....
I said to convert SGD to THB and what happens? The exchange rate is still so much better compared to June/July 2008... and what more can anyone expect? Even with the airport closed for a week, the currency held up. Thailand is a strong country with a strong currency.

A strong country like Thailand will just continue to develop at her own pace, tug of war or no. They will not and must not let a despot (and his puppets) come into power even if there are short term advantages for that.
Otherwise, once the despot consolidates power, it will be another Myanmar sooner or later.

I really dont understand the anti government people in Thailand. Thaksin is such a good prime minister. He revitalize the economy and lead the country for out of currency crisis and the interference from army.
Even after Thaksin ousted by coup, they still want his ally and the party to step down. Come on, they are elected in an election, can't they respect the decision made by majority and constitution.

Thaksin is not acceptable. He is a despot in the making. The country needs people that lead by consensus rather than force to remain a strong country.

Uncle, u dun get confuse leh, LKY or thaksin is a despot...me blur blur
I don't see how the PAD is accomplishing anything by concensus. All i see is the urban minority forcing out a government that's helping the rural poor.
You need the Rule of Law for a Democracy to function. If the people feel the government is inept they should vote them out (Singapore's 66.6% is already slowly moving towards that direction) they should wait for the elections and then vote to change that government. Not cripple the day to day functioning of the government because YOU believe that Thaksin's a despot.
What's going to stop the next bunch of people who feels that the PAD are despots in the making as well and stage the same kind of protests? And the next bunch afterwards? This is not democracy or freewill, this is a Mobcracy and worse, this is the will of the rich minorities trying to make decisions for the rest.
Riot won't work

PAD has one main objective, and that is to kick out a wannabe despot and his puppets... so that an honorable government can come into power. They have done so, brilliantly.
Stage the same kind of protests against the PAD because they are "despots in the making"? You are so idiotic, it is mindboggling.
How can people that are not holding political office ever be "despots in the making"?
If another wannabe despot comes into power, it is only right that people hold protests against him.
