Thailand is still better than having greedy for public money despots running, no ruining Singapore.
kids, remember that spamming your friends with propaganda makes you lose friends
and people asking you to spread propaganda?
They need you, a complete stranger to help spread the propaganda because they have lost all their friends.
if you want to spread propaganda, remember to do it for a good cause, not randomly spread it, causing pain and suffereing to others.
remember, friends are forever, politics is not.

The political situation looks pretty grim - even family members are divided down the line. Hope they can ultimately be able to untie the Gordian knot facing them now.

Thailand was never a competitor for singapore, for them, they can anytime close door and cook themselves without even Singapore around. They are people who can smile and go on with life even if there is a big earthquake that shatter all their houses, ...that kind of thinking can never be around here..they are the land of the thousand smile...we are the land of the thousand anger.

Spoken like a Machiavellian. But, enjoy it while this zero-sum game lasts.
If you look around in SE Asia, only in Thailand has the Chinese been so assimilated, so integrated, so mainstream.
Hope the Thai Chinese bears this in mind for theri long term good.
Forget this and event will quickly unfold to undermind their status.

This is why Thaksin had to go. Thaksin is a divisive character but the Thais, (as shown by the assimilation) are a "consensus" building; live and let live, power sharing, diffused power (as opposed to concentrated power in a single person or party), society.
This makes their country very strong, the power and responsibility is multi-faceted and diffused within the country and yet focussed and consolidated when the country faces external threats.

...and the Thais will tell you "huh? *yawn* so stressed for what, competing all the time, thank buddha we do not have to compete just to survive, we are doing very well, thank you. Tell your Ho Jinx to throw away more billions, taken from your stressed out people, into our country."

Thaksin was voted in as part of the Democractic process.
If he performs badly and mess up the country, then he should be removed by the Democractic process, by voting for the superior candidate.
Military mutiny is not part of the democractic process, cutting off power/telephone lines to the parliament is not part of the democratic process.
If the people wants the power from the democractic process, then they are also responsible for upholding the democractic process.

I agree with you that the democratic process should beget power to the people but the problem lies with this bunch of jerks from the PAD who alleged that Thaksin & his party had the mandate from the people thru vote rigging/buying/cronyism & so they are not going to uphold the democratic process.
Sometimes one wonders what the sh..t this bunch of jerks really want.

The irony is the other side can do it too when it's the PAD that gets into power.
What's going to happen to the country when people starts realising they can ignore the police and sabotage government facilities without retribution?
i dont feel the tense atmosphere the media protray in the past few mths. my customer just disappointed and few like to talk about politics. i guess the fight mainly erupted between the bangkok urban elites few who try to overthrow every govt related to thaksin.
bangkok these days are really quite. it is easy to get hotel booking and places of interest has been very quiet!

That's kinda interesting, how do the Thais feel about Thaksin anyway?
I read up a little on him, but i still don't get the violent protests. It doesn't look like he's done anything major enough to provoke it.
IMHO, i think those who seek to remove him are jealous of his money lah.
Thaksin supporters (UDD) using violent tactics....
"supporters of the pro-government United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) threw stones at a truck carrying PAD members. ....The fight escalated, as the PAD truck turned to pursue the several dozen UDD supporters, firing at them."
Thaksin's popularity is with the rural farming folks, whom he had helped by loosening bank financing at low interest that was largely unavailable before he became the Thai Prime Minister.
The primary reason for his fall from political grace was due to the sale of his satellite and telecommunication business to Temasek in its entirety, with a secondary reason of perceived corruption in the manner in which the sales receipts were moved to avoid tax being paid.
While Thaksin was gratefully accepted and supported by the Thai rural community, he was seen as a consumate business rival in the urban jungle, and had obviously gained quite a few sore losers in the process.
He certainly had no lack of enemies - both commercial and political - in the city of Bangkok, where his fortune was first made.
Is he comparable to the likes of despots that plundered the National Treasury ?
His downfall is not due to the National Treasury being raided - as had happened with Marcos of the Philippines and Saddam from Iraq.
His fall from political grace was due to the sale of his company assets that were seen to be National Assets in a purely sensible commercial transaction with Temasek.
Thai protests turn violent, shots fired among rival groups
BANGKOK: Thai anti-government demonstrators fired shots at government supporters as the rival sides clashed Tuesday afternoon on a major highway in the Thai capital of Bangkok.
The fighting began when government supporters began throwing rocks at a truck carrying members of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) as it was returning from Bangkok’s old airport, where the group had been holding a rally.
The airport has served as temporary government headquarters since the alliance occupied the prime minister’s office in late August.
The anti-government group responded by firing slingshots and at least two pistols from their truck, and then gave chase to the attackers, who appeared to number several dozen, according to footage shown on Thai PBS television. The gunmen fired about half a dozen shots.
The men on the truck appeared by their dress -- wearing camouflage clothes and yellow armbands -- to be among the so-called guards working for the alliance, who have earned a reputation for aggressive behaviour.
They also hoisted a portrait of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Thailand’s revered monarch, whose interests they claim to be working for.
The alliance has previously denied that they carry guns, though reporters from The Associated Press have seen them carrying and shooting firearms at earlier confrontations.
The footage showed anti-government supporters surrounding a motorcycle taxi driver and putting a knife to his throat. After the driver fled, the protesters hit several motorbikes with steel rods and set fire to another one.
The two sides are fairly easy to distinguish, since the protest alliance favours yellow shirts and their rivals red ones. Some of the government supporters seen fleeing were wearing red shirts.
The Narenthorn Medical Centre said four people were taken to the hospital.
The pro-government crowd appeared to be members of a loose association of taxi drivers who support the government and are supporters of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
The People’s Alliance for Democracy opposed the current government, because it considers it to be a puppet of Thaksin, who was accused of corruption and abuse of power and deposed in a September 2006 military coup.
During the brief skirmish, neither police nor any other security forces intervened. -- AP
the latest episode should set the monarch and the protestors' sponsors somewhat nervous....thailand might just as well split into 3 regions, the restive malay muslim south, the middle class centre and the rural north....unless the army does the burma thing, thailand is pretty much paralysed............
