the average crime rate for
2006/2007 and 2007/2008 is 7,256/100,000 population.
ie (7327 + 7185)/2.
Compare with Singapore is 720/100,000,average for past 2 years.
That is,crime rate in Vic is 10 times of SG per 100,000 population.

U can say SG understate the crime rate.Figures can be cooked.
MY once say her crime rate is lower than SG.I leave u to decide

Singapore's crime rate is low because,
1) It's a small city, commit any crime there is no place to hide. Unless you are Mas Selamat, you can continue to escape the police indefinitely.
2) The punishment meted out by the courts is harsh compared to other developed countries. That's why Singapore has one of the highest amount of prisons and prison inmates in the world.
3) There are cultural and racial differences due to demographics.

1. Have you considered what crimes were involved? It is likely that the statistics are skewed due to lesser crimes. After all not all of them are murders are they?
2. Maybe SG is shit at catching crooks hence lower crime rate.
3. It is likely SG has a lower crime rate, in fact SG is envied by many countries for its low crime rate. However, it's not envied for its draconian punishments. SG isn't exactly a shining beacon for human rights is it? Apparently you can't even hold protests without govt approval.

That aussie hater is out to mistwist this news of crime rate. the crime rate can be 10x higher, but what crimes being committed?, is not being elaborated. It could be theft of property making up most of them
the degree of severity of 10 thefts commited is not equal to 1 murder, which has a much higher severity.
Imagine this scenario: A peaceful society or neighbourhood can be ruined by just one murder in its vicinity which can cause much more mass hysteria and panic than one isolated incident of theft. At most it will be written off as a one off case where someone has been careless wih their property arising in opportunity for crime.
